I am switching out a bad 350 for a good 350 engine in my Chevy. After taking the bad engine out the torque converter slide forward and leaked some tranny fluid. Do I have to fill the torque converter before I put the new engine in or does it fill through the transmission while running?

Allan"s right on the money. You absolutely MUST make sure that torque converter is seated, otherwise when you bolt the engine and tranny together you"ll break the pump in the tranny. Ask me how I know. You only make that mistake once if you"re lucky.

It fills while running.

Be careful when you put the converter back in or you can damage the pump.

Rotate it going back in and you should feel it drop into the different splines three distinct times. When it is completely inserted, it is very close to the pump and you should then have to "pull it forward" to bolt to the flywheel.

Also, one of the boltholes on the flywheel is an "indexing" hole. Instead of being round, it is vertically slotted. Put this bolt in first and this will assure that the other boltholes will align correctly.
