why is there an aspirator in the exhaust pipe pulling air out of the air cleaner housing and what would happen if it wasn't there?

Car, truck, tractor?? Model?? Some older cars use a tube with a check valve to inject air into the exhaust manifold instead of a smog pump. Idea is to add air to burn up any unburnt fuel.
