My brother has fixed up the this Super Dextra 4000 for me. I trailered it home about 100 miles. It runs good I was using the blade to level up my drive way. Suddenly it refused to lift the blade. Is there filter to the hydrolic system somewhere? What kind of oil is needed? I opened the check plug on the right side of the tracter. The oil contained their has a dirty yellow color. I have orded the manual for this tractor. It will take about a week to get here. I noticed, before it quit working that the blade would creep down rather rapidly. I need to know if this is something I can fix or do I need to take it back to my brother for more work. I have to decide by monday the 17th. Because my other brother wants his trailer back.

First off figure out what you have, There was never a DEXTRA it was DEXTA and the 4000 series was not derived from the Dexta and not connected to it in any way. The 3000 series replaced the Dexta but was a completly new tractor.

It sounds like there is a good deal of water mixed into the oil. Drain it all out, and put fresh NH 134D or equivelant Universal tractor fluid (TDH) in. I would suspect that the control valve is sticking, possibly from rust, or possibly from other trash built up in the system. I don't believe there would be any filter, except mabey a return filter on that tractor. You would likely need to remove the lift cover to change the filter. I would just try changing the oil first, and then go from there. HTH.

Thanks! I appreciated your info. My brother and I are wondering if you would know how much oil will be needed to replace the oil? If not I guess we could measure the oil that we drain out. I wanted to pick up the oil on the way when taking the tractor back to his place.
