Mornin' Guys,

Just setting here waiting for the darned sun to come up so I can get back out and play in the dirt. :>)

Finally got this old gasser and the grain drill/harrow in the field yesterday; only hit one wet spot and I consider that a pretty darned good day.

Was surprised how hard a gasser can actually pull; didn't realize they had quite that much "umph" to 'em and I really, really like the infinite speed control of the hydro.

However, two things I don't like. Man! Can that rascal ever drink the fuel! After being around the diesels since forever, this thing was kind of a shocker. Reminds me of the days when we used to farm with the Hs and Ms.

Secondly, is that darned 806 front end. It is just flat wrong for this sized tractor and doesn't turn on a dime like it should. I've either got to find the correct front end or it's nothing but a loader tractor. Just shouldn't have to brake so darned hard to make a simple 90 degree turn. :>(

Sure like the way it sounds when its working hard tho.

Allan

thats why the narrow fronts were so popular in that era, altho I hated them. No good in the feed lots. You just need a wider drill. None of thwen turn real short in that era that I ever had. Course I always ran the dark green stuff Only red I had was a 1086,that ws the first and last red for me. roughest riding tracto on earth far as I was concerned.

I like the performance of a gasser as well; but the fuel consumption is a problem. And the crazy thing is, they will burn just about as much raking hay as they will maxed out on a plow. Every farm in snow country has to have one though! Glenn F.

Oh but it looks so nice Allan. I love the sound of the carbureted engine though. But also love the sound of my turboed 312. Gonna disk with it maybe today, I'll find out how it is on fuel. I have to work the tar out of my turboed 656 to get a gallon and a half through it.

Yeah,

Once you get used to the diesels, seeing that gauge actually "move" is kind of a jolt. :>)

I'll bet that 312 is a little monster just waitin' to tug! How big is your disk? Should handle a 14' okay, shouldn't it?

I would imagine that the hydro zaps some power and makes it use more fuel too. We have a JD 4020 GAS and really like it but it does love the gas.

Oh, I 'spose.

I'm just used to the diesels. This joker used a half a tank yesterday just pulling a grain drill. Geeze! Bet I could run the 686 all week on one tank. :>)

I can burn 10 gal an hour in that MX 200 of mine.

Its harder on fuel than the 1086's are.

I just keep telling myself that I'm getting more done per hour.

Don't know if I really am though.

Tractor works okay. Lights work just fine. It's the guy runnin' it that has the problem. :>)

I dunno, Dave.

Would sure like to finish it up, but it all depends on how many interuptions I get from the heads of state around here. :>)

This is the first time I've ever pulled a harrow behind a drill. Boy, does that ever work slick.

I pull a roller harrow that I've retrofitted into a corrugator and then hitch the drill behind that. Makes turning a bit tough, but works great. Well you gotta get it drilled before Wednesday evening as we're supposed to start getting some moisture then.

Dave do you sell your calves as feeders or are they finished?

Do they go thru a sale barn or pirvate sale?

Sold mine thru a sale barn in February at 800#.

Just wondering. Gary

Well I buy some and raise some and sell them differently all the time depending on markets, amount of feed etc. These I raised, brought them up to about 850 and are selling them through the local sale barn. I should have dumped these a couple weeks ago but wanted to finish feeding some feed. My mistake, oh well, what can you do?

Been there Done that.

If people do the opposite of what I do they usually will get better prices than I.

I've been loading semi with corn and beans here lately so prices will proably go up since I've already sold.

That 966 of mine burns around 6 - 7 gallons of diesel a hour.
