Do you guys have musk thistle to fight like we do here in eastern Iowa?

Sprayed grass pasture with feild sprayer and now I'm taking a little break from spot spraying them with the 4 wheeler and 15 gal sprayer in the alfalfa grass pastures.

Where did this menace come from we had no musk thistle 10 years ago maybe even just 6 years ago?

I'm sick of doing this every year.

Gary

If everone would declair war on the the things we might get rid of them. I lived in northern Kansas and those things would take over a pasture so bad the cows almost stared to death. Spray in late fall will get them. They come up in the fall and are easy to kill like in late sept. or early october. But don,t let them get a start.

We had to raise ruckus to get them to finally make those with it running wild in CRP grass to do something about it yet the state lets it grow wild in right away ditches and areas off curves. I think it came in wheat seed and grass seed from other areas that had it and then when it blooms the wind and birds carry seeds too. It's so dry no problems with it yet this year. Last year thistle was bad and even though it has stickers it's tender stuff and just using some fuel in a sprayer or wiper and puttting a little on them will knock them down faster than many chemicals. In seed wheat we walked it and used a shovel and carried them out in bags burning them later.

Oh yeah, I wait til they start to blossom and then chop with a shovel. Some years are worse than others but I find that after a few years a patch may nearly dissapear. Oh course I just get new patches somewhere eles. It is listed as a noxious weed here but the State does nothing about the ones in the highway right-of-way.
