Hi Guys,

Happened to notice that the oat field is starting to turn a little light color so decided to drag this ol' pooper out of the trees and clean the birds nest out, 'cause there just might be a little grain out there. Who knows? :>)

Anyway, the old monster sat for 10 years in a quonset in Sheridan, Wyo, sat on the dealers lot for a few months and now has been setting in the same spot out here fer about 10 or 11 months with a half tank of REALLY OLD diesel fuel.

Spun 'er over 2 or 3 times and that old Allis diesel roared back to life and runs like a new one.

'Spose I really ought to grease it too. :>)

Sheridan, WY? That's where I got my handy-dandy TransMix cement mixer. Not as complex or as pretty as that Gleaner, but I've sure had fun with it!

Whatcha Talkin'?

Those little guys are the handest thing slice door handles. Loved those mixers!

Well, I was told this combine came from Sheridan, but I sure wonder about all the corn cobs and silks in the walkers.

Didn't know there was any corn up there. :>)

Allan, Top off the fuel tank with new DSL and she will be good to go! I would grease it, Combines have an Auto-destruct tendency built right into them.
Case in point my Uncle had spent a bunch of time and $$$ on an ol JD 7700 in the winter prior to wheat harvest of 80, about 1 month prior JD put out incentives on the new 8820s well my 2 cousins said trade, he wanted to keep the old machine, well he gaave in and trades, got a great price because of the work done on it. JD sold it, with warrenty, 5 hrs into the next owners time the cylinder shaft broke loose, and the cylinder walked out the frount of the feeder house. did a tremendious amt of damaage. JD stood behind the warrenty, We thought the machine was good to go had he kept it! Have fun in Oat harvest,
Later,
John A.

Hey Allan. I know that someone will probably be upset at this question, but does that thing have air conditioning? At work, I've been combining wheat all week (well, 'till yesterday afternoon, when the rain started) running a NH TR85. Those cabs get really hot without it. I turned the blower off for a couple minutes while unloading with the door shut, and it almost ran me out because of the heat. Hope you do have something out there to make it worth the $2.50 a gallon diesel to cut it. Be safe and have fun, and take plenty of pictures. JohnDeereGreen

Hi,

Yeah, it has air conditioning, but I'll probably have to buy some adaptors and pump 'er full of 134. The evaporator fans and the condensor fans do work.

Haven't really checked it out yet, but I'd just bet it is empty of freon. :>)

Good thing. Those cabs are like ovens without it. Good idea to switch it over to 134 if the freon is already gone. Have fun cutting, and be safe.

Hi Allan;
What a lovely combine. We used to get Allis Gleaner A & C models here. I drove one for a contractor for a few seasons in the late 1960's & early 1970's; great to operate and Allis's had a good reputation especially for grass seed harvesting.
Those models had the concave (drum) set at the bottom of the primary elevator immediately behind the auger. Any stones dropped straight through and a buzzer on the deck sounded. Also this would trip when the dew came down in the evening which was a sign that it was time for a well earned beer, the moisture was too high to continue combining for that day.
Have these mdern Allis's got that feature?
The last Allis's were the model 5000 built in England in the mid-1970's.
The winter sown barley & rape has really yellowed up in the past few days, wont be long before the harvest teams start in this area of England, and the tractors & 14 ton trailers are tearing up and down the lanes.
Trust your harvest goes well.
Cheers David

Grease? How do you expect the parts man to stay in business if you grease those bearings?
