So,

The machine shop calls and says the head is done for my little IH tractor. Fine, jump in the truck and run into town. $700!!!! What the Heck?!

Okay, since I'm in town and already cross-eyed anyway, let's run see what those two big bearings that the combine cylinder uses is gonna cost me when the time comes. Betcha they will come in at at least $200 a pop the way my luck is going.

Nope, parts man says they are only $22 apiece!

Does Gleaner make a tractor? I'm sold! :>)

Hi Rick,

I stopped in and picked up the parts yesterday to swap 'er over to 134A. Haven't done a lot in that direction yet other than give it a real quick check over.

Don't see any signs of a massive leak, so it should be an easy fix. I hope. :>)

Gee it's tough here in Alabama with all these ignorant red necks. I got my head from the machine shop Thursday for the '63 Fordson Major 8 valves, 8 springs, 8 guides, retainers, seals, but the seats were still good. Still the hill billy charged $164.00. No complaints here.

There for a second, I kinda figured you'd seen the light, but guess not (just kidding) Good luck finding those Gleaner tractors, tho. I hear they're mighty rare :)

Heck,

I'm so impressed with this thing. Parts prices are right where they were 30 years ago.

I asked the parts guy why and he says 'cause there's a million of 'em still out and working. The factory is still tooled up and making parts for the silly things. :>)

Walked out in the oats today and it is still green so maybe I ought to take time to throw those big bearings in before they change their mind. Even the darned gundgeons are only $15 apiece. Almost unheard of these days.

Yes,

Everything new down to and including the keepers. Darned exhaust valves were the most expensive and having the guides replaced. Said it was indeed warped and he had to cut .012" off 'er.

The exhaust seats were ate away like it had been getting antifreeze to it. Dunno, never noticed any leakage in the radiator tho.

Anyway, should be good to go fer awhile.

Ah - I was thinking you were really switching.

Round here lately the AC rigs are making there presence known on the ShepFL Oliver place. Looks like a punkin patch with all the green and now the orange.

Watch for some thinning of the herd soon . . .

Hope you had the presence of mind to buy them on the spot, before he discovered his mistake. Didn't know you could buy a paper clip at a dealer for $22. . .
