In OR, a NH 256 goes for from $2500 for one that works, but needs some TLC to $4500 for one in decent shape.

I bought a real nice 282 for $400. I thought i was getting a killer deal, as similar balers were bringing around $2k. However, after using it I found that it makes a BALE of hay and won't make them near as small as i like. It has a larger than normal chamber. I sell hay and like 40 lb bales, this baler likes 75 lb bales. If you like heavy bales, its a good baler and you may be able to buy that one right.

Noticed that one too. Wish I could go, but its our aniverssary so the wife will have me hemmed up for the day. Might try to get the father-in-law to go & bid on one of those bushhogs. That JD baler is in pretty good shape, I would guess around $2000 for it. Should be able to pick up that rake for around $1000.00. I have not noticed many good farm equipment auctions this year in our area, soo people may be hungry.

What is hay equipment so $$&*%#$ expensive?

I'd like to have a rake to pull behind my 8N.
I would think a small side delivery rake would be affordable to me.
No chance of that ever happening.
And balers? Forget that idea all together.

A friend gave me an old Dearborn SBM.
I'd like to have a rake to go with it.
And I'd like have a small round baler.

I know an N tractor isn't good to bale with,
but I think I figured out how I can do it.
But I don't think I'll ever get to test my theory.

Pooh, Where are you? At a sale this spring an old MF rake brought $300. A guy called in a NH rake today with bad dogs for $275? Fellow down the road has a NH 268? that he wants $400 for, has been sitting out.I guess it all depends on location and demand. Keep looking, something will pop up. A cousin of mine bought an old JD baler a few years ago for $35 at an auction. A friend of mine bought it from him and started baling with it so you never know.

I'm in Dunlap TN, 25 miles north of Chattanooga.

Around here to get the value of used equipment,
I think people weigh it, then multiply the weight
by the price of gold for that day.
I have come to believe that people around here would
rather let it rust into the ground than sell it.
And if I am selling something, they want me to
pay them to take it and deliver it to them.

Understand fully! Sometimes it pays to cruise the backroads looking for old iron. The further from town the better. May want to head up into KY around Somerset. There are a few dealers there that will have some older trade-in stuff. Also check papers for farm auctions. This link is to a call-in radio program near Monticello,Ky that sometimes has farm items.

Hey, we got tradio every saturday morning.
I see a lot of affordable stuff on ebay out of KY.
Our daughter lives up there about an hour out of Cincinatti.
I can find stuff and make a weekend of the trip.

Around here people would rather let it rust into the
ground than sell it. They should at least store it
in my yard and let me use it and maintain it.

Where are you located? This is EB harris auction. He usually tends to bring higher prices and lots of people. I went to the cow pasture sale this year and stayed 12 hours. When I went to pay at dark they were still selling.

I'm over in Lexington, about 100 mile from Raleigh. Never been to one of his auctions, but do keep an eye on his website.

You should go to one of his cow pasture sales. He has them once a year. You may want to get a hotel room somewhere inbetween though. You will be beat down if you stay all day. Hey I have a extra room if you need that.I see that you have quite a bit of auctions in your part of the state.Drop me a email about some and maybe we can meet up.
My email is open...
