I live in a sub-rual area....you know no sidewalks.....lots are 120'x300'.....had a problem with ground squirrels....they under mined my front porch .....when the front edge sank, the footer cracked the basement wall and pushed it in about 4".....big job to fix.....

I have feed and cared for the stray cats in our area(7)for the last 10 years...in turn they have eliminated the ground squirels.....

New neighbors have been trapping the cats and letting them die in the traps.....I also think they are spraying them with something.....

what can I give then to put around there house to keep the cats away and out of their flowers.....

thanks I need help..... Don

Don: Cats will usually not hang around a property unless they are getting fed, or there is a nice spot to cover their waste. We are avid gardeners, have cats and have rodents on ocasion. All summer I keep a plot of soil tilled weekly for getting rid of all compostables from the house. This loose soil also makes a very nice spot for cats to bury their waste. They will choose the easiest digging in the neighborhood.

I don't particularly care for cats, but see them as necessary. I truly dislike the rodents they keep cleaned up. I know my plot of weekly tilled soil keeps the cats out of our own garden. It also gives me another excuse to get the tractor out.

Occasionally it falls on me to do something cold - like euthanize a diseased animal - but it is always done as quickly as I am able. Anyone who would deliberately allow ANYTHING to starve to death in a trap is not right in the head. What a hateful and cowardly way to kill an animal.

Places like Dr's. Foster & Smith and J-B Wholesale sell products to repel cats, but I don't know if they work well in an outdoor environment.

I would turn in your neighbor tomorrow morning, because of what he is doing to the cats. If he doesn't like cats letting them starve in a trap is a bad thing to do.I don't know about your state but that kind of thing will get you some jail time in calif. Since you are aware of what is going on I would think you would also be responsible. Stan

I would get some of that dog/cat repellant spray in a can. It might work.

Can't help as far as what they can use to keep them away but I know in most places doing what they are doing can end up with them in jail. Sort of not legal to stave cats etc with out trouble from the some law
