I looked at the pic you posted for the vet with the double o-ring and I imagine that will work. In the photo it looks like the passage isnt dead center of recess area, is that the way it really is? The service bulletin is an effort to correct a problem they had with those covers not being made exactly perfect, they didnt get the passage centered. Reads like if they didnt get they passage in the cover right it was a problem holding the o-ring. Looks like it is pretty easy to change on that tractor any way. Changed the one on the 1566 once in the field. It had 20.8 tires set in narrow on a cab tractor with a step fuel tank that went back towards the axle under the cab. Wasnt much space but that was the time it dropped the oil on the ground. Good luck. bill

Hi Bill,

No, they don't "center" worth a darn is is kinda why I used two o-rings. Just didn't like the looks of it.

Just hope I don't end up with a chunk of o-ring in a relief valve someday. :>(

Well, you can always catch a plane and help set up our chopper for corn.. I gotta replace a few chains on the head and I want to re-set the knives to the shear bar before I grind them again.

BTW: the tractor is a 986 we rent from a neighboring company once in a while. We originally rented it to run the bagger, but then the clutch went out in our 1855 so we swapped them last year. Not too fond of the way that one shifts, too much grinding and not easy to start out on the road. Didn't seem to go as fast on the chopper either. What kind of HP does a 986 ussually run? Our 1855 dynoed at 105 last fall after the new clutch...

Hi Don,

When they're set up right, the 986 should be right at 105 hp also.

I'm like you. Don't like the left handed shift and they sure seem to ride rough with that forward sitting seat for some reason.

That two row Fox is about all that tractor wants too. What are you in? Second gear, stick back?

I can't remember what gear I was using with the 986, but with our Ollie it's ussually in 2nd, sometimes 3rd. That 986 hardly ever gets a work-out, most of the time it's just demoing a TMR mixer or shuttleing things around in their parking lot. In one year, they only put about 6-8 hours on it. When we rented it last year, we put on 9 hours in 2 days. Definately a big difference for that ol gal.

My dad said once the 18 was on the bagger he could really let the wagons fly, he was hauling wagons with our 285 and he said he ussually had the pto at full speed.. That 986 must be a little tired from not working much at all...

Just curious, do the remote hydraulic cylinders have to be adjusted for that high output pump or do they have built in restrictors to handle that increase flow? Like on the baler door does it damage the seals or rams to put that increase on them? Got me to thinking which flow pump I put in my 966 last year. I just ordered a new one from I.H. and didn't realize there was an option. Migraine

Hi Howard,

No, it just moves more oil. All the bigger pump does is insure capacity as far as flow is concerned so if ya need to run hydraulic motors and such, you still have oil enough to cover all the ‘normal’ bases as well.

The latching, pressures and all the other system idiosyncrasies remain the same as they always have been. When its not on demand, that extra oil just flows on thru the relief to the sump.

Saw a tractor one time in at the red shop that had 7 axillaries. Don’t know what the heck that guy was all about. :>)

Roaded 'er clear the heck and gone out there to the farm, hooked it up to the baler and she snaps that tailgate open and shut even at idle just like it is supposed to.

Now, if my little "o-ring fix" will just hold fer the duration. :>)
