In the loft of my barn was an ond tractor inner-tube that a prior owner left for me. Had a patch and was too small, but I'm a hoarder. Sure enough, I needed a scrap of rubber and decided to slice it out of the tube. When I cut the tube it smelled nasty - unmistakable "death" smell. Then I spotted a wad of dried grass.

I shook out a softball sized nest and the dried carcass of a mouse. The classic locked-door murder.

There was one patch on the tube with lots of glue dabbed around the edges, no other obvious hole. I figure the former farmer patched that tube and couldn't figure why it kept on leaking, so he retired it to the hay loft. Poor mouse never did get all the way out. Does make you wonder if it was mounted when he first chewed his way in.

On the other hand, if it mostly held air, I wonder how many laps he ran before starvation got the best of him.

Had to smile at that one! I hates mice.
