I have a 1987 Ford F-250 with a 351 Windsor motor and need to replace the alternator. The alternator in the truck now has a large plastic electronic connection plug not the single post. I broke the plastic wire connection and need to know whether or not I can convert to the single post style alternator. Is this possible? If so, how is it done?

I replaced the alternator in my truck a few years ago, it came with a new plastic harness because of a fire hazard associated with the old ones. I don't know the details, mine was an 88 F150 but I'm sure it's the same harness. Easier to go with a replacement harness than a different alternator.

Got mine from Automotive Supply, a Federated distributer.

You should be able to go down to the dealer and they should have a repair connector that you can wire in. When I worked for Ford we had a company that came in, their company was called Winzer and they made a bunch of different connectors.

You're better off to replace the alternator with the one it calls for.Alot of remans come with the plug that you broke as it is a common failure.Otherwise most part stores stock the plug, and you just need to splice it in.~brad
