Mornin',

Passed a feller the other day that was moving his 1086 or 1486 down the highway with what I assumed was a 14K lb gooseneck trailer.

Bless his heart, I know he was just trying to get it home; he was certainly going slow and he was being very careful.

But my word! That thing looked like the tail could easily wag the dog! Darned tractors seem to get awfully big when loaded up. :>(

While at the Tri-State show in Portland In. this past Aug. I seen a rig I could not beleive! The semi tractor resembled a IH COE or it may have been a KW.
The trailer ( I use this term loosely) was about 50 feet long, 4 axels with single tires, no duals, of at least 6 different sizes. It was over loaded to say the least with two big lathes, drill presses, and an assortment of other stuff that would have made a scrap man proud. How he got by the Troopers I'll never know.

Allan,

For sure that's a load on a pickup. But I've been party to worse. Good friend of mine has an '03 Dodge 3/4 ton with the 6 speed, heavy duty, all that crap. He pulls a tri-axle gooseneck with that thing. On that trailer, he's had my D4H cat which would score about 26000 # with the forestry package and the mud it usually carries. I didn't know until after he moved it that there wasn't a brake on the trailer.... Truck handled it well though. Just for safety's sake though, he normally uses the old Mack with the float, but the dodge does do in a pinch. Hear ya in the scary loads though. Take care.

Couple months ago I was at the New Holland dealer when a Kid 16 maybe17 years old pulled in useing a F 350 and a trailer that had wrote on the side "Hooper 7 Ton Special". He was haulin a TW 20-with a loader, an a 15 foot bushhog batwing cutter. They had a rusty bit of chain an a $20.00 come-a-long run from the tractor to the back of the cutter to "support" it an a piece of rope as a "safty catch" to hold the wings up. The tractor was jus parked on the trailer NO HOLD DOWNS none what so ever. No trailer brake actuator. No light hook up to the trailer. Kid said since he only had come 60 miles he didn't see no need to strap it down.
My Mama sez the Lord looks after fools, mebbe so.

Well, aren't you glad you didn't go to southern Colorado to get that tractor like you were talking about? I'm leaving today with my flatbed and 20ft trailer and heading to Holyoke, CO to get the last of my grandfather's antique equipment, a jd "one way" and a 44h plow. Do you think I'll be overloaded? Watch for us. Maybe we'll stop in the Nebraska hp test museum in Lincoln on the way and see that origional ford tractor cowman talked about.

That kind of stuff just gives me the willies.

I don't like towing my smallest tractors. Keep thinking they're gonna crawl down my collar 'er something. :>(

Yeah, I saw him headed north. Some guys ask an awful lot out of a 3/4 ton pickup. Seeing stuff like that makes me glad I have a truck for the heavy loads.

Local new holland shop has a little 5 ton truck, not roll off that he will load anything up to a 100 horse onto. Looks funny with duals hanging over both sides and loader hanging over the tail.
