I have an older Hobart welder that is powered by a 4 cly flathead Jeep. Can anyone tell me what engine will have the same bellhousing bolt pattern. I want to go to newer powerplant.

Flathead Jeep? If it is the Willys flathead-Go devil -engine then the later F head Hurricane from CJ3-5 will bolt up- about 10 more horsepower. If a Ford Jeep engine? Not sure, had a few show up at jeep dealer I worked at, didn't see any magor difference in mounting of engine. RN

Uncle,
there was a standard SAE bolt/bell pattern that they came up with in WW2. There are probably several engines that would fit - Continental, Jeep, Chrysler, Hercules, Buda etc.

Why in the world would you change that sweet running engine??? I've got one on my F-600 service truck..I air-arc with it .I thaw water lines with it..Sometimes I even weld with it..It's easy and cheap to rebuild..I stuck a nice muffler on it so it's not too loud..I've got my Hobart on a roller type of deal in a channel frame. I can pull it almost all the way out to service it..It's slick..

I think the early scout engines will bolt up. I also think an adapter for any propular engine is being made. You may want to look on a four wheel sight for the info. on where to find it. Stan

Ask on the www.willystech.com forums (I think you have to register). Bunch of people have done engine swaps into old jeeps, someone should know what does & does not bolt up.
