Hi everyone ,hoping there's a heavy equipment guru out there ,Brother has a timberjack skidder 215c ,,,he's gone through three clutches since putting in a new engine in it not so long ago ,,the clutch keeps popping the rivets,,so the clutch supplier ,,"Fleetway" is going good for this clutch ,but there's all the labour and downtime ,,,I don't have allot of info sept he thinks it's a t98 trany ,he put a john deere engine in ,but don't know any specific's on it yet ...The dealer won't give him clutch part no. ,just their company invoice ,,,,here just a middle man as far as I can tell ...
Any suggestions idea's ,,,all advise appreciated,,

Hey Phil,

How did the trip go last weekend? Hope all was well. Drop by anytime you're down.

Now to the TJ. I'm guessing this was an older machine? Probably had an old 353 Detroit or possibly an old Perkins engine previously? More likely the Perkins. Is there a chance that he dropped a way more Deere engine in there than what cam out in terms of power and torque? The first thing that's really coming to mind with me is that he's got too much engine for the clutch he's got. The second thing that comes to mind is that it's getting abused.... but that's harder to do with a skidder. Shock loading, that kind of thing could shear the rivits. Although I don't see what kind of real shock loading it would get unless it's pushing over trees, or climbing over stumps at high speeds, and making use of a pile more power than it had before.
He could also look over the clutch disc and see if there's some numbers on it. He might find some, and then head off to parts for trucks. I know the local contractor that does our hauling gets a lot of the parts for his TJ's from them, rather than Lounsbury. Just a thought.... I dunno too much else why it would shear the rivits, unless like Rusty suggested, there might be an alignment issue. Hope it works out.

Rod

Might want to check the alignment of the transmssion to the engine, or maybe double check that all the bolts are good and tight? Only other thing I can think of is that maybe it's the wrong disc for that application.

definatly more motor was put in ,it was an old ford 220 ?? and not sure ,but know he has stated it is much more powerful ,,,Abuse ???Roddie I'm sure the machine is well used ,,but think it is as you state to much engine,,,what's the next move ,,I'll see if he's got more info on the clutch and I'll check with parts for trucks ...
As far as the home life ,,been a rough 24 hours..MIL's cancer is getting worse ,she has a fractured vertibra and the canceris all around MIR shows it's back in other spots as well ,,,It's hard when we're this far away ,Wife is cleaning her work slate and I'm home being Mr.MOM..
