About 55 years ago before I was a teenager, I used to spend part of the year on my uncle's farm He used to have a grocery store, then about 1949 he decided he was going to be a farmer. Bought himself a Ford 8n and went to farming. In the fall, He used to run the binder and bundle the corn. We'd pick it up haul it to the barn and run it through the old Papec Ensilage cutter and blow it into the silo. Then he went modern, bought a field chopper put 4 ft.sides on the hayracks, chopped the corn brought it to the silo where he had what seemed to be a big vacumn cleaner with about a 12 inch metal intake hose on it. It stuck up in the air and cameback down to where you parked the full wagon under it and then climbed into the wagon, and sucked it all up and the thing blew it up into the silos. Two big octagon silos about 30 ft. high built inside the barn. ANYBODY EVER USE OR SEE ONE OF THESE BLOWERS ???

Grandad had one. It was a Piech (?) had a LeRoi engine on it. Dad said you couldn't carry gas fast enough to it.

I think the McKee company built and sold a machine that doubled as a chopper and blower. My brother brought some literature on it home from the fair many years ago. I will look for it.

Yes Bob, McKee Bros. of Elmira Ontario made just such a machine. I actually still have my uncle,s. They were a great one man harvester in their day. The sales literature indicates that, if you wanted to, the standard machine's capacity could be almost doubled for the princely sum of $35.

I think the current equipment used by municipalities to pickup leaves is the next Generation of this type of Machine. There used to be a company called Giant Vac that had a unit you towed behind a dump truck . I think now there is a company called ODB that builds many different models, some include self contained boxes . Someone at a village some place probably used to be a farmer that used one of teh units you are talking about and created a new industry
