Just got back from Mass. with my new toy. It's a '68 Hesston self propelled windrower. It runs pretty good, just needs a tune up and oil change. I got all the big chunks of dirt off and I'm going to put the header back on and get it ready for next year. I got about 40 acres to do. This thing is so slow I think I'm gonna need TWO smv's. Good thing the fields are close.

If you need to rebuild the cutting parts on the header, go to sickle service. We ordered all new guards, clips, and a sickle from them this year for a new to us Hesston 1014+2 and the prices were great, a lot better than we would have paid locally. I got their adress from someone else on this board, forget who. Maybe Allan?

Thanks Donavan, the sickle knives are pretty new. I'd like to mow with them enough to shine 'em up a little and then spray some slip plate on 'em so they're ready for spring.

About 15 years ago I used to work for a factory rep. Found out too late how much the guy was fixin books. Anyhow; That engine used to be used on a REALy big pressure washer. SIx thousand psi at around five gallons per minute! You could cut through a soft brick with the water stream. It was used to blow off poisoned concret in car parks. Cleans down to the good cement and then you recoat it. jeffcat

Looks like one the neighbors had when I was a kid. As I recall it whipped down the road at 3 mph. They ended up making a trailer to haul it around and started doing custom work with it.

Nice find. We had a model 500 with the 4 cyl Ford. What model is this one? I bet that Wisconsin really works hard if you get in thick alfalfa. Your header must be an 8 or 10 ft.

I should have said, it's a 310. The header is 8'. The fields all have mixed grasses with a little alfalfa and clover. I'm cutting and baling for neighbors who don't have the time. I was thinking of getting a towed moco but I would have had to get a bigger tractor too. I got this for $600, but I spent about $400 to go get it. Freakin' toll roads, sheeesh! Not to mention fuel. As for the weather, that was about the worst road trip ever. Rain, fog and dark except for about half a day.
