Would like to know how many RPM's the output shaft on transmission on 800, or 900 versatile is turning at rated engine speed and both transmissions in high gear. Is this running engine speed or is it slower. Need to know if its running atleast 1000 rpms. Engine in 800 rated at 2100 and the 900 is rated at 2400 rpm. Trying to run a pto hay grinder off the transmission out put shaft but need to know how many rpm that shaft is running in road gear if any one has an idea on this I would appreciate a reply, thanks.

Thanks for all the replies, yes we did spin the drive shaft behind the engine and in road gear it spun the out put drive shaft one spin, but things werent perfectly lined up but it was close to 1:1. I just didnt think that bottom shaft would be running engine speed, but I guess it is, just trying to get a second opinion I guess. And yes we will probably have to pick and choose on the gears until its running at around 1000 rpm. Thanks again for your replies.

Doesn't matter what the output rpm is in high gear, that will be direct drive(engine speed). You have the transmission(s),choose the gear(s) that gives you 1000 output rpm at rated engine speed. Probably find that you will be down in 2nd or 3rd an one of the trannys, and direct on the other.

I am refering to the output shaft that drives the rear ends, there is no pto out put shaft, and I have never seen one on these models, don't know if they ever came with pto or not. I have seen 145's with pto but not the early 800 or 900. We are thinking about splitting one of the tractors(removing rear half) and disconnect front drive line, powering the tub grinder with the transmission out put shaft if it runs at least 1000 rpms. We plan to put a hitch on front of tractor for moving it. I know this sounds over the top but have seen guys use old semi trucks to power tub grinders like this and they run power out of semi transmission. Just thought maybe someone has used one of these old versatiles this way as a power unit. On semi tractors the output shaft on transmission in road gear is the same rpm as the engine, but on this tractor transmission I am not sure, trying to find out before we start the project this winter. One revolution on engine spins the drive shaft one revolution so we think there is going to be enough rpms. Thanks for any replies.

In order to calculate that you need to know the road speed (mph) at rated engine speed and the size of tires. Then I could probably tell you. The other way to do it is to take all the gear ratios of the transmission and engine rpms and calculate your final rpm. Sorry.

You say: "One revolution on engine spins the drive shaft one revolution so we think there is going to be enough rpms."

By that, do you mean the driveshaft from the engine to the tranny, or do you mean the front and rear driveshafts to the axles? Almost sounds like you already know the answer???

With reference to the transmission output shaft are you refering to the output shaft that drives the PTO if you have it or one of the output shafts that goes to the axle differential? If you are referring to the output shaft that drives the PTO; it would run at at a constant speed at any given engine RPM regardless of what gear the transmission is in. Clarify what shaft you are speaking of and I will try to get the answer. Maybe someone else more knowlegeable here can help.
