Good friend of mine has a Kubota F2400 diesel front mount tractor with about 3400hrs.
He has a problem with it not starting without cranking over about 10-15 times if it has not been started for a week or so.This is before the colder weather. Late summer it would start then quit sometimes 2 times;then it would start and run fine. We changed the fuel filter.. no change. Had it to the dealer They -Checked the glow plugs - Fuel lines - Valve clearance - Block heater -Checked to see if fuel filter was tight - Drained the fuel tank and checked for foriegn matter in tank -Filled tank full. Mech. couldn't find anything wrong with it. After bringing it home have found no improvment, so there has to be something wrong. It always started good before.[always kept inside and he plugs it in in winter]. Anyone had this problem?
Your help please. Eldon from Ont.

Defective inline check valve causing fuel to drain back in tank. Valve is built in filter housing..

Did the dealer check the injectors? What kind of compression does it have? Does it gave a low oil pressure shut off switch? If it does, it could be taking more time to build oil pressure so it will start. Did you check the shut off solnoid to make sure the fuel shut off it fully disengaging and allowing the injector pump to get fuel to the injectors? 3400 hrs is getting up there on hours for these little jap diesel engines. Just a few thigns to look at that can cause your problem.

I have had a couple of the kubota engines do that when the lift pump went south. Seems they have to have that pressure to start.

Hi Dave down in Tx
This Kabota has the fuel tank above the engine so would it have a lift pump?
Thanks for your help.

Just a thought, have you checked the return lines from the injectors back to the tank/filter, sometimes if they get a pin hole in them it will allow the fuel system to loose prime which will make it hard to start. Just my 2cents worth. oj in mb
