THE HALF WIT

A man owned a small ranch in New Mexico. The New Mexico Wage &Hour Dept. claimed he was not paying proper wages to his help and sent an agent out to interview him.

"I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them," demanded the agent.

"Well," replied the rancher, "There's my ranch hand who's been
with me for 3 years. I pay him $600 a week plus free room and board.

The cook has been here for 18 months, and I pay her $500 per week plus free room and board.

Then there's the half-wit who works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of all the work around here. He makes about $10 per week, pays his own room and board and I buy him a bottle of bourbon every Saturday night."

"That's the guy I want to talk to, the half-wit," says the agent.

"That would be me," replied the rancher.

Glen

I agree. As a rancher myself, I wish I was doing that well!

TRUE Story in reply to R. John Johnson, 12-14-2006 16:55:19
True Story with names changed to protect the innocent and guilty:

Mr. Z had been raised in New Mexico but had went off east to pursue another career and make his riches before retirement. After retirement and returning to New Mexico he bought a large ranch there. His neighbors that had been ranchers their whole lives doubted he would make it being 80 miles from a city now. He proved that point one day when having a flat tire on his pickup truck that was pulling a horse trailer along a rough dusty ranch road in the hot New Mexico desert sun. No lug wrench in the truck so he takes off walking back to the ranch for a lug wrench. His nearest neighbor of 25 miles away Mr. W just happened to be driving by and found Mr. Z walking down the road in the hot sun and told him he had a lug wrench and some cool drinking water and they would go change his flat tire. After Mr. W got the tire changed on the trailer for Mr. Z he asked him why he didn't unhook the horse trailer and drive back to the ranch in the truck or unload the horse and ride it back to the ranch?? Mr. W said Mr. Z you are going to die out here soon in the hot dry desert!

Mr Z had a flat tire on his pickup truck. Why did Mr W change a tire on the trailer?

Must be he had to put the flat tire on the trailer , and the trailer tire on the pick-up. This way he could drive back to ranch and get lug wrench to fix trailer tire. ????? ????? ????? ????? ???
