Allen, Bob, Bradk and Traper, the gear popped off just like you guys said. Went back together just fine.

But could a fellow just pop the axle and put it back in if he left the unit engaged while he did it? Wouild have this held the washer in place well enough to restab? Just wondering.

Thanks again.

No, it wouldn't work.
That darn gear has that internal retainer that needs some help to get it over the end of the shaft. Most of the time I have to take a couple of picks to get it started instead of pounding it on. Glad to hear ya got it. ~brad

Thanks for letting us know it worked for you!

So many times, I wonder how a hint worked for someone, but so often they never post back.

I don't know if the splined hub would snap on all the way, correctly, if a person pulled the stub axle with 4X4 engaged, then re-installed the stub.
