Have a 1998 Dodge 1 Ton diesel with a round tube front axle. It looks like a fellow can just unbolt the tube axle and bolt a drive axle in its place. Then install a tranny with transfer case. Have anyone ever added 4 wheel drive to theirs? Any problems with getting controls thru the floorboard? Thanks for any info.

You are working with a cab & chassis here. They were the only ones that had that tube front axle with the same ride height of the 4x4. It'd be more trouble than it's worth, just trade trucks.

The axles and drive train are not the only difference between 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive. It will be easier and probably cheaper to just buy a 4 wheel drive truck.

cant say much for a dodge but i changed a chevy one time like you describe and it would have been cheaper for me to but a truck that is 4x4 and fix it up to what i wanted and in my opionon it is not worth doing it unless you have the time money and parts. just my 2 pennies
