I have a 1960 Cat 12 grader with a gas pony motor. When I start the pony it rev's up good, but when I put it under load it will pop and stall out. I have to kick it back off load and hit it again, and again it will lug down. I have changed spark plugs, drained the cylinders, but have to mess with it for a while befor I can get the diesel going. Has anyone got any ideas. Thanks

pour some seafoam in the gas and see if it runs better ,let it run until it's out of gas to let the seafoam do it's job .

I'm like Rusty I have never messed with a pony engine before but all engines work the same way. From what you say its either just plain getting weak and probably has poor compression, or you have a carb problem and its running way to lean which also means its not produceing the HP that it should be.

I have no experience with those pony motors, but it sounds like you are experiencing either ignition problems, fuel delivery problems, or both. My first thought is a dirty carburetor, but a weak ignition coil will exhibit the same symptoms. You have replaced the spark plugs, what about the spark plug wires? and the ignition coil wire?
