Okay Guys,

I ask this a few days ago and no one answered on how to increase the RPMs on a 560 Diesel. I just bought a 1960 560 diesel and it only turns 1850 rpms, my dads 1963 560 turns 2100+. How can I turn mine up. Yes, I realize they are rated at 1800rpms stock and 60hp.

Is there anyone on this site that knows how to increase them, or should I just go trade mine for one off a 706 or 660 as they run higher rpms.

thanks,

robert

Sounds like your trying to get more HP out of your 560.

The 560 (ending with the 686) was the top end in HP for that tractor frame. The 706 was the bottom end in HP for that tractor frame. Since this was the cross over in terms of HP they generally used the same engine that was turned down for the 560 and up for the 706.

The 686 (D312) i had at one time turned at around 1800 and puts out over 70 pto hp vs its rated 67 hp (about where it should be).

My guess is that the RPM are about where they should be to produce the 60+ rated PTO HP.

If you adjust your 560's engine to the 706's spec for the same engine you'll get the same HP as the 706. Pto will turn a little faster.

The trans is the issue as this tractor wasn't designed to handle the higher HP and very early 560 had trouble with their rated HP. I believe their was a recall on the first 560 to beef up the rear end.

Thanks for the info guys. I was told this tractor has had the rearend modifications due to some marking on the tractor that dealers used. I do not know if that is true or not. Its a 1960 so not the first off the line, its serial is 9756 or something like that.

It started at -6 the other morning and it was not even plugged in, kinda rough on one cylinder but as it warmed up comes alive.

anyway, I think it will be a good tractor, its got the 656 type fenders, 2 point, brakes are excellent, clutch great, T/A works terrific, power steering good, it has a schwartz or something like that front end.

anyway, thanks for the info,

Look at your Operator Manual and see what the rated RPM is. If you tractor is running less than the rated RPM, then do a little troubleshooting: air filter. fresh fuel. Fuel filters. Fuel pump. Linkage to injector pump. Let it idle then open up throttle quickly, evaluat how much black smoke you get - - too much is too rich - - not any is too lean.

You don't just jump in on trying to turn up a pump without doing these things first.

Robert,

It is not hard to set up RPM. First with the engine shut off check to see if the linkage is pulling the arm in the back side of the injection pump all the way back to the hi idle stop screw. Screw should contact pump housing at full RPM setting. Might have to adjust linkage for wear. If ok just back the screw out to desired RPM. Takes a 5/16" wrench to loosen & adjust the screw.

Ted is correct.Adjust the linkage so the throttle stop screw contacts the pump housing. If that is not enough RPMs then loosen the screw until you get the RPMs right.Just be sure the screw is contacting the pump housing as you loosen the throttle stop screw. This will only affect the governor cut out.It won't affect the fuel output of the injection pump.

I dont know a thing about your 560 but I got an IT manual for my case and it shows how to set high and low idle speed, I suggest you find a manual
