1" thick metal plate, 7" wide 38" long, with brend in it that you could get your hand under it laying flat. How many tons of pressure to straighten cold metal. I was under the impression that heat would weaken it?

If supported on both ends on rollers, and pushed on with a "foot" that was a mirror of the bend, a 60 ton press will bend it back. Be careful, be wachful, and it will require bending farther than straight to let it relax into straight. Give it a whirl. JimN

If it is mild steel, heating it to bend it will not affect the mechanical properties. If it is hardened steel, that is a different story. The problem with trying to get it straight is that you need to put exactly the opposite forces on it as what caused it to bend in the first place. That is extremely difficult to do. You usually have to overbend it so that it comes out close to straight. If you had a thousand ton press with a flattening die you might be able to get it done.
