About 15 years ago some of the chief officers of Walmart purchased a good heavy duty truck parts distributor when the owner retired. They went broke trying to sell heavy duty truck parts in the same manor they sold goods at Walmart.

We have had a TSC in southern Mn. for many years in Mankato. It used to be a store with half filled shelves, most of the time I usually ended up going down the street to a pop and mom farm store which carried most anything you needed. Then about 15 yrs. ago the TSC moved to the "new" part of town and has done much better. They are now trying to compete with all the other uppy stores for the country dweller farm needs. I did buy a 2 stage IR 80 gal. air compressor 2 yrs. ago and it has worked real well, but who knows who makes these new IR compressors. I think it depends on where you live as to what the store stocks.

Toys Shoes and Clothes. Yea, that seems about right these days. Well, at least I can still buy nuts and bolts by the pound. Provided they actually have any in the bins mind you.

TSC went into part of an old Walmart here. Walmart tested their own brand of farm store after the regular Walmart moved to a new location and became a supercenter. I believe they called it County Farms, I can't recall for sure. It lasted a couple years maybe. It took up the whole space of the old Walmart store, but now TSC only uses about 1/4 that space. TSC is #3 in a three store race in this area. Orschelns (sp?) leads the pack and then a Farm & Home comes in #2, followed not to close by TSC. I hope they all survive though. I seldom shop TSC but it's good to have them there as an option.

TSC has simply adapted to the times just like all the other successful businesses have to. They couldn't stock their stores today like they did years ago and survive. They now cater to yuppie farmers, a few real farmers and the general public, with record earnings. Stores sell what the general public demands, whether they be the local mom & pop or corporate America. Consumers drive that train, not store owners. Don't blame TSC if it is not what you want it to be, blame it on consumer change of times, whether we like it or not.

I'm dating myself here but I can remember when they were a good farm store. They had a store by the stockyards in Kansas City and you could get overhaul kits for any tractor, parts for about anything on the farm, clothes, toys, and about anything a FARMER would want. Jim

While I agree that their stores are not aimed at farmers (they admitted that in a book they put out about their history) you might be pleasantly surprised if you check out their catalog. It's currently available free in the store.

Just picked up the new catalog last weekend. Wierd thing is the catalog doesn't agree with the website, I have been looking on the website to find tractor tire chains and they do not have any listed for ag tractors. Flipping thru the catalog today I see they have rear tractor tire chains listed on page 234. Curious what other incongruities they might have?

In theory your TSC store can special order you anything that is in the TSC catalog.
They have done so for me a couple of times.
