O/T: '92 Caravan code explanation

'92 Caravan, 3.3 v6, auto, giving code #43. My Haynes book defines it as "Peak primary circuit current not achieved with maximum dwell time(1990 3.3L engine)".

Am I looking at a bad coil(distributor-less ignition)pack? Or is it a supply-side problem? Something else that activates the coil pack?

Can someone explain this a little better? Opinions and suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks,
Anthony.

I don't know what the symtoms of your engine are. I have a '93 that was running bad and I drove by my nieghbors house who is a dodge mechanic and he called me up and told me to change the plug wire's.I changed them and it fixed it. I guess that is a common problem. It's worth a try. Good luck Dale

my snap-on MODIS tells me to check crank sensor for proper trigger 1st, check plug and harness going to BOTH crank sensor and to coilpak.

a broken flexplate will also cause this problem due to crank sensor reading off a round plate welded to flexplate

I can provide no help other than hop on over to allpar.com and register for the forums and post up on the minivan forum. Allpar is good for any Dodge product... They've been helpful and knowledgeable for me!

replace the coil, its a comon code fer a bad coil on a 3.3. I see it more once a replacement aftermarket coil has been installed than a OEM coil

Doubt if it's the coil pack (although it could be).

ALl that code means there is something ary on the primary side. Could be anything from the ignition switch out to the completion of the coil's primary field collapse.

I can't remember what they use to trigger, be it a hall effect switch, position sensor, or a module, but that would be the first place I'd look. Something on the primary side.
