I have heard the term "hot tank" many times and I am wondering just what everybody's definition of hot tank is.
Is it a metal drum with heat applied to with a degreaser mixed in?
Is it an acid mixture that nobody wants to mess with? Let me know what you think works best or what you call a hot tank.

Jet washers and pyrolitic ovens have replaced the hot tank. They used a caustic solution not acid solution. Yes, even with a jet washers you sign your life away when they pump them out because of the EPA. Cleaning aluminum also requires a much different solution.

I haven't seen a good old fashioned hot tank for a long time now. Most of the shops use a device they put the part in and it is sprayed with solvent jets. I don't think it does as good of a job as the hot tanks. Stan

Hot tank is something that the run of the mill person will not /can not have. EPA regs will not let the average person have them because of the chemicals that are uesed. Machine shop have them and they are used to clean blocks, heads etc. but they are set up for them and watched closely by the EPA.

Every machine shop has a hot tank to clean blocks and heads.

Heat element in a water/acid mix. Takes 'er down to the iron.

A heavy military vehicle that has been hit with a depleted uranium round.

A lowered and sectioned '51 Mercury with flames.

A tight fitting upper body female garment worn without a bra.

A nuclear submarine.
