I need to get row cleaners for my White 5100 planter. I saw a piece in Farm Show a year or so ago about someone near Mt. Pulaski, Ill. that was making and selling them. Not sure of the name, Martin? Does anyone know of them and could give me a name and phone #. Would be interested in 4 used ones if anyone knows where there are some. Chris

There are row cleaners that mount on the parallel links so you don't have to drill your row unit face plate. Yetter makes them, possibly others. I used to have a set on my 5100, they worked pretty good.

Row cleaners are very hard to get on a white 5100 there are no predrilled holes and there is not enough room to get them in there anyway without lots of cutting and welding.I have had a set for close to three years and they are not on yet. A newer design might be easyer.

I thought they were relatively easy to put on. Simply flip the parallel arms front to rear, weld a new cross piece farther forward, drill your holes, and bolt them on. I wouldn't plant without them now.

Hi Dean, on some 5100 planters the cross piece is not in the way. My 1980 model is good to go as is.

I found some Dawn units at the planter salvage yard next to Colfax Tractor Salvage. Run by Sean Coogley. The usual way to find him is to ask at the tractor salvage office and they'll leave a message on his cell phone voice mail and in a few minutes he will turn up. I paid $100 a row late in 2005.

Shoup is at www.shoupparts.com.

I think row cleaners help the planter a great deal.

We've been running Martin row cleaner's on two different JD 7200 planters since '01 and personally I wouldn't plant corn without them. Even in worked ground the row cleaner's make a smoother path for the row units to pass over. About a third of our corn is no-till, a third is minimum tilled (inline ripper in the fall followed by a Phillips harrow) and a third this year will be corn on corn (disk chisel in the fall followed by a Phillips harrow)and the row cleaner's work great under all of those conditions. You could try Dave Moeller at Moeller Ag Services in Keota, IA for used row cleaners. He is the largest Martin dealer in the country and may have something like that available.

Sure I can get you some and if look on lot probably have some used yet for the white. On hill ground I just left it and disk once in spring and planted. Are you wanting coulters between them or just row cleaners

Rick, I would be interested to know what you have laying around that would work on my planter. I have a single coulter with about a 2 in. wavey blade. Where are you located? e-mail me. Chris

Row cleaners are not recommended when a surface application of pre-plant herbicide is used. I don't know if you plan to do that. I do and I use a coulter that runs directly in front of the seed opener unit. Works good but I only run into the trash problem planting soybeans after corn. I rotate corn/soybeans. I have a JD planter and can get lots of info from them. Have you tried White directly for info? Website?

My land is all HEL. I have an older Brady field cultivator but it doesn't go thru trash in swath from straw chopper in bean stubble without plugging, and then FSA says I don't leave enough residue. Don't get a very good stand in the heavy trash. Chris

I know what you mean about trash.

I traded my older cultivator last spring for this one for the trash reason.

But if you have hel you don't have much choice if you want to stay in compliance.

Sloan Express list Yetter Brand row cleaners in in there book.

Martin makes them as well as Yetter.

I have them on my planter but don't use them much. They are locked up most of time. But when I notil I do use them.I went to one pass with the field cultivator instead of notil.

Check this site.www.sloanex.com.

I did no till for about 10 years. Used all kinds of different attachments. I went back to the field cultivator 3 years ago. No till works as long as conditions are near perfect. But, more often then not, that isn't the case. It seems like almost every year there was some new problem that cost me yield. With $4.00 corn, I want every bushel I can get. IMHO, messing around with no till is not the way to get it! As to the row cleaners, I would think most any implement dealer would probably have a pile of used ones. For new, try Shoup in Kankakee, IL. I think they have a web site. Their phone # is 1 800 627 6137. Orders to them have free shipping above $150 of product.
