9n tranny won't shift

I AM REBUILDING A 9N BUT WHEN I BOUGHT THE TRACTOR IT WOULDN'T CHANGE GEARS. I REMOVED THE COVER LAST NIGHT BUT IT WAS TO LATE TO DO ANYTHING ELSE TO TRY TO FIND OUT WHAT THE DEAL IS. ANY THOUGHTS ONE WHAT IT COULD BE PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

I agree its prob stuck in two gears prob bent forks anyway to souNdguy do you know the exact length of the pto shaft on these 9N's I have one worn and slips out- I have welded them before but don't remember how much to add in length if you can help me please e-mail me at firechief51@peoplepc.com than ks

If it sat out side very long it could be a simple as rusty gears and rusty shifter. I have a 2N that was the same way when I got it. I could use one gear when I got it then 2 and so on till all of them started working again.

You'd probably get alot more responses if you'd actually posted this in te 9n-2n-8n specific forum.

In any case... are the rear wheels locked up? if so, the tranny may be stuck in 2 gears. If so.. jack up the rear end and have a helper.. you will need to pry it out of gear .. wiggling the rear tires back and forth may help it un-bind while one person prys the offending gear out of mesh..

if that is the case, once pryed apart.. look for gear damage and also wear ont he shifter pattern, ball end, look for broken or bent or loose forks, or loose rails / detents / set screws.. etc..
