I switched our 351M over to a 460 the bell housing fit. For engine mounts I had to get some from advanced adapters ? I think. Those 460's are sure alot better and I even get better mileage.

If it is a 351M it has the same bellhousing bolt pattern. The Winsdor or Cleveland has the smallblock bolt pattern. I think you will need a 460 flywhel.

I have a 351 W with the big bell housing hooked up to a C6 in an 86 3/4 ton 4wd.I also have a 351W out of a Ranchero hooked up to a C4 tranny with the smaller bell housing.

MikeinKy, You are wrong about the Cleveland. It is the same block as the 351M/400. The Cleveland is 3 times the motor as the 351M/400. The Windsor is a small block like the 289 and 302. As far as motor mounts for the 460, go to a junk yard and get some.

Lumpy, do you have about $100.00 you would like to bet. I have been working on Ford motors for 35 years. The Cleveland has the small block bolt pattern for the bellhousing and the 351M has the same pattern as the 460. I have changed over too many of them. Just to make sure, I have taken several M's out of trucks and installed 460's.

You are mistaken as are a lot of people. Differant blocks on the 351M and the 351 Clevland.
Look at an aftermarket intake for these engines, they are not the same.

Sorry Lumpy, I got to side with Mike on this one.
351M - 400 has the same bellhousing pattern as a 429-460. a 351 C has the same 6 bolt "smallblock" bellhousing pattern as the 65 and up 289-302-351W.

351M and 400 use the same block with the 429-460 bellhousing pattern, 351C has a lower deck height and the "small block" bellhousing pattern. I built and raced many of each, so I have a pretty good handle on what does and does not bolt up.

I bought a 75 Mercury and a 1978 F 150 new and they both came with 351M400 big block and it said Cleveland on the sticker on valve cover. both engines out lasted both vehicles.

That only means it was made in Cleveland. That does not mean it is a 351C.
