I have decided to buy a 25 foot tandem axle camper. The camper is a ball bumper hitch. Hitched to the drawbar to pull about 2 miles on mostly flat paved road with a slight downhill section would a Farmall H be heavy, powerful enough to do it safely. That weekend I will not have access to a truck is why I am asking. I also have the JD A if that would handle it better with a WFE.

If you do decide to move it with the tractor, the trailer won't have any brakes. I'd make sure the battery in the trailer is fully charged & attach a lanyard to the breakaway switch on the trailer so you can apply trailer brakes in a hurry if you need to. Try it first to make sure the breakaway works, then just reset the switch after you stop so you don't run the battery down.

I moved a 12' X 60' mobile home with a 175 Massey. It handled it ok even stopping. But the front end got a little light every once in a while. So be sure weigh the front end down. Even on level ground. By the way that was the second mobile home I moved. I moved a 12' X 50" that was burned mostly out with a 4X4 chevy half ton truck. Just wanted to say won't be doing that again LOL. Be safe

I moved 50ft. about 5 mi. with a B-275 IH hills mud etc. that will register about 9+ on the pucker chart. I was 22yrs young then, now I'd just call 911 so they could get on the way! gary

What Rusty Farmall said. Stopping it is the problem. If pulling it with a tractor I would use the A because it has individually controlled foot brakes so you can keep from locking one wheel and jacknifing. Also, for just 2 miles I would 2nd or 3rd gear with a vehicle behind with flashers on.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the H has both brake pedals on the right and the clutch pedal on the left. An A, which I used to have, has the right brake pedal on the right, left brake pedal on the left with a hand clutch on the right. Both feet can be used to stop the A in a more controlled fashion, keeping the tractor straight. I know the pedals on the H can be locked together, but my tractors with brake pedals on the right are very seldom adjusted to the same tension, making one foot brakeing difficult. I know, my bad for not better maintaining them.

I have moved my 21 ft with a H farmall around the house but your real close to it and hard to see except to the front. I would wait for the truck. If moveing on the road.

Hi Sunny,

Not sure what a 25 ft. camper weighs but a wagon loaded with 150 bu of corn @ 56 #s is 8,400 #s and A's and H's have been draging them around for years.

Be safe, Rick

My neighbor used to have late model JD A's and we could drag a 2 wheeled manure spreader heaped up overfull up and down and all around the farm. I don't think that trailer would weigh any more or less than the spreader ? Everyone says wait for a truck. Only truck going to move more than a JD A is going to have to be alot bigger than a pick-up. Wish I you were next door to me I'd bring my late B over and get-er-done for you. Afterall you did say level ground didn't you ?

I think the H will be as adept at handling the trailer as the A. My biggest concern would be stopping the trailer. Neither of the tractors in question have the capability of stopping that trailer unless you were to equip the tractor with an electric trailer brake controller, and you can't do that unless the tractor has been converted to a 12 volt electrical system. If the two mile stretch of road is reasonably flat the entire way, and you DO NOT use the road gear in the tractor, you will probably be O.K., but be extremely cautious. That 25 ft. travel trailer is a whole bunch heavier than you think it is.

Ya it probably could be done but is it safe to do so?? My self I would not do it unless you also have a flag car/truck behind you with the flashers on and a slow moveing vevhcal sigh on the back

Why not just move it to the lake earlier in the week with the truck? Then on the weekend you need it, just move it to the spot with the tractor. I would think this would be much safer. Use spotters to avoid any mishaps.

I'll agree with the fellow who said wait for the truck. Tractors are fine for around home, but if you are going to be on any public road you are asking for trouble. Mirrors are essential to safely be aware of traffic and turns. Otherwise you might just turn into the guy who decided to go around you. Just isn't worth the risk.

I'd hook that JD A on and give it a try. The JD should have better brakes than the Farmall and a lower road speed too.

I have a 24 foot that I move with my H, but I have never tried it on the road, just around my place. It moves it fine, but I'd be leary on smooth pavement at higher speed. I am sure lots of people will tell you it will be fine, but my vote would be to wait for a truck.

Take it easy and go for it. Have watched people move 50 ft and longer house trailers with Ford 5000, Long 460 and others. Now this is in Southwest Va. and not very much level ground or roads. Would not do that myself. Move my 23 ft. around yard with whatever is handy. Worst thing to me is can't see what is behind . Main thing is to take it slow and easy and watch out for the other guy. They can get you in trouble very quick.
