Lighter soil was ok, but the heavier soil was to wet. So I quit.

I don't know what that is you're plowing. Does soil really get that dark?!?! I don't want to post any pictures of my soil if that tells you anything.

I plowed a 9 acre creek bottom yesterday that has not been plowed since 1946. Now that was black.

This field is good on this end but the soil on the other end is lighter.

Gary

You Iowa guys have no idea what sand is! That right there is prime ground here... if there is even any around. You either get Clay, Muck, Sand (I mean real sand), or gravel. Soil in picture is decent sand for the area, looks better in the picture.

Looks like the front furrow isn't taking near a full slice. Did you get too close while trying to set up the photo, or does it always run that way? I read somewhere that a 7-16's isn't really big enough to use on-land hitch and have a proper straight line draft, and having less cut is worse. We have a MF model 880 with 7-16's on-land and it appears to work OK. I would like to have a model 720 or even a 710, with 7-16's or maybe 8-16's with an on-land but they seem hard to find reasonably priced. I can't bring myself to pay $1500-$2000 for a 7-8 bottom when 5-6 bottoms can be bought for $200, particularly when I might only plow 50 or so acres every couple of years

Read the reason for the narrow furrow slice below.

Too wet hereto get in the fields. Just getting tillage equipment ready today. Weathers been on the coldish side and rains, but it should warm up.

Looks okay to me except the front bottom is only getting about a 7 inch slice, don't know why that is. What else is wrong Allan?

Only rich farmers in Nebraska can afford a plow with a spare set of bottoms...what ruins one set to make you have to use the other ones? It don't look like you're plowin' deep enough to hit any major rocks.
