I have a 78 1T Chev dually, frnt disc brakes. The Rt frnt brake drags and get hot, it was even locking up and on soft ground the wheel would not even turn. I replaced the wheel cyl caliper module with another that was off a working truck (barrowed) but still drags! So any body got some suggestions. I thought the original was bad but the second is not rite either so where else could be the problem?

Yes... Those BRAKE LINES will actually stop up, I had one that looked like it had Dirt in it, probably OLD Fluid/Moisture combination, Cleaned it out No Problem!OK after that. Larry

The rubber inside the brake hose deteriorates, and folds inward, plugging the hose.

WHY would you even attempt to "CLEAN" something this critical?

Replace it, for heaven's sakes, as well as the other rubber brake lines on the truck.

Their "time is up". Don't set yourself up for the same situation!.

Just to reinforce whats already been said. I have a friend with a late seventies Chev 1Ton. Same thing happened to him. Replaced caliper and a few other things. Then replaced the hose and that was it.

I beleive Dave has the right answer here.....Same thing happened with My 79 one ton. Caught Me at a time when I couldn't get the time to shut down and fix it. When it locked up I'd pull the left front wheel and prise the caliper free.BRAKE LINE HAD FRAYED INSIDE....WOULDN'T LET FLUID RETURN. Fairly easy fix, but,TOUGH to thread a new hose in the junction block. Be carefull, Guard against cross threadin'.

Had the same problem on my 1980 heavy half and I replaced the caliper and that didn't fix it. Thne I replaced the rubber brake line going to the caliper and that did fix the problem. May also be where your problem is. The insdie of the rubber brake lines some time gets bad and will let fluid flow in but then not back out and then the caliper hangs up and the brake doesn't release like it should

If your changing one hose, plan on changing both. On a truck this old, I would replace ALL the lines on the truck, but especially the front lines all the way from the master cylinder to the wheels. Internally collapsed brake hoses are more common than anyone realizes. These are usually caused by twisting or kinking the hose during front pad replacement. In Pa. if a hose even looks iffy during inspection it must be changed.

Good point, I think both are original as I have had the truck since 1989. Its a dirt dump bed and gets a lot of real heavy loads. I just hauled 2000 yds of dirt on my farm. Got another 1000 to go.

Something to check that I have run into a time or two, rubber brake hose leading to the caliper can collapse on the inside and not let brake fluid release. The hose can look normal on the outside. goodluck, Dave
