I have about 40 acres to spray this spring for beans and was looking at Roundup at Farm and Fleet. The generic is $39.95 for 2.5 gallons and Roundup Pro is $139 for 2.5 gallons. Both have the same percentage of active ingredient so what does the extra $100/2.5 gallons buy me? There was no indication on the bottle why Roundup Pro was so special.

I used a generic for Roundup ready beans, I didn't notice a difference. It killed everything just like roundup did & was alot cheaper.

1. Be careful of internet advise on herbicides - I see really strange advise on this kinda stuff sometimes.....

2. The generics, used at a rate of 1 quart per acre, tend to be cheaper than the $$$ stuff. It is a good idea to add AMS to any generic as a water softening agent.

3. The more $$$ stuff _may_ have additives & pre-mixes that make them work better, or rain-safe much quicker, or preformance garentees that offer free re-sprays if weeds come back. Or they may allow you to use 28 or 36 oz of product to equal a full quart of the cheap stuff.

4. Considering all of #4; refer back to #2, and you will have less cost & less fuss & as good a result & more $$$ in your pocket.

One will be as effective as another Just read the directions. Just don't mix any different round ups. made the mistake once with Round up original and generic. There are different wetting agents and salts that are incompatible. burnt the beans and cost 15 bushel an acre. Livin and learnin

We've been using a couple hundred gallons of generic products a year since '02 along with some Roundup Weathermax and we've seen no difference in performance between the two.

I buy generic by the 30 gallon drum. Our supplier says he has been to the Monsanto plant where it's made, says it comes off the line from the same source with different names on the drums and jugs.

You pay for the name but it may contain more effective wetting agents etc. Probably nowhere near the $100 though.

Chris,
He said the % was the same, so one isn't ready
to use and the other not. If that was the case the % of active ingredient would be different.
The generic is just as good and the brand name. Just make sure that everything on the label is the same.

Crossbow is an entirely different chemical. Roundup and the generics contain glyphosate. Crossbow is a mix of 2, 4-D and triclopyr.

I've used the generic glyphosate, don't see any difference. Just make sure the % active ingredient is the same when comparing price.

Yep Crossbow is an entirely different thing for different uses.
I have used both roundup and generic with no noticible differences.
