I should have known better. As kids, my little brother gave my arm a yank while I was holding something. Took numerous stitches to the base of my thumb to put that back together. Last Saturday we were helping our senior citizen Mom & Dad with a dangerous tree. At age 86 the old maple beside the house is tall and massive but suffering from some dying/dead limbs. The safer limbs were cut with the chainsaw but the iffy ones were roped and pulled from the ground. I wanted to use the tractor but they were worried about damaging the tree. So Brother and I were giving the old 1 & 2 & 3 on a limb. We both had our heels well dug into the clay for traction. When near the end of the 3rd pull he "let go" of the rope. I was pulling with all my might when the tree pulled back and won. The tree's yank back was enough to twist the heel off my right work boot. My left heel stayed dug in but was carrying the pull intended for 4 ankles. Pop, SNAP,pop..... ..... ..... So anyways the specialist looks at my left Tibia on Friday morning to decide is if requires some pins or screws. Messed up the spring planting and turkey hunting too. Thank goodness for those "Air Casts". Get that on there, well adjusted and properly pumped up. I could just about walk on that leg if I absolutely had to with it on. Plus it can be adjusted throughout the day and removed for washing.

Now why on earth would your brother let go? Didn't he know what the consequences would be? I
have a brother liek that too. We don't talk much because he did the same thing to me on one to may occassions.

Hey B&D
Hope it heals fast. I am sure you can ride the 4wheeler or tractor out to the spring turkey woods.

I broke my ankle but it was my own dumba$$ move - no one else. Was "tarring" some loose roof shingles and instead of using ladder to get down I jumped off the low point of the roof line.

It was only 12' but when I hit the ground I found out I was not 16 anymore. White lights flashed in my eyes and my ankle twisted. Put on my lace up boots to control swelling.

Had to wait 3 days for swelling to go down enough to X-ray and "Yup, you broke it!" Hobbled around with "Walking boot cast" for rest of the summer. Not fun.

Sorry to hear about that. Reminds me of about 5 years ago, broke my leg putting a plow on the 4 wheeler. Slipped on some ice. About 4 days later while unloading a pickup load of straw broke the bottom out of the cast. Went in to have it fixed and the Doctor said I shouldnt be doing that. I asked him if he would come over to do chores and he declined.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you won't need the surgery for the pins or screws. Those tree limbs can exert a lot of force when under tension. Yes, I guess we all do things once in a while that we should know better than doing. But, the only sure way to avoid being hurt, now and then, is to do nothing! I hope you can figure out a way to do a little turkey hunting though. Hate to see anyone miss that.

Hey you need to take a break anyway. No pun intended. The last time I worked on a tree. I
fell 10 feet off the ladder with the chainsaw running. It appears that when the limb I was cutting finally cut through it came back and kicked the ladder out from beneath me. I tried to get up for a minute with no luck. Thought I was paralyzed, only had the total wind knocked out of me. Up and cutting up the fallen limbs within ten minutes with only scrapes from the fall. The wife won't let me climb and cut anymore. You heal fast now, and tell the brother to stay away from trees,at least when your there.
