You might want to call your local law enforcement agency to see what the law is about stray animals. To comply with the law you might need to advertise that you have found him and make a reasonable attempt to find out where he came from. On the other hand you would probably get away with just keeping him and eventually eating him.

If he still has his testicles, I would really advise castration ASAP. Bulls, and especially dairy bulls can get very aggressive and even might become deadly as they mature. The only reason I would ever keep a dairy bull is if I had dairy cows that needed to be bred. And then only if I could keep him in a very secure pen. He may be friendly now, but if he is still a bull, that could change really fast.

I don't have any experience with Gurnsey meat, but we raised several Holstein steers when I was a kid and they were OK eating. The meat isn't as marbled as a good beef breed, but it was good enough for us. The Holsteins seemed to have more bone and less meat than conventional beef breeds. We didn't pay much for the bull calves, which came from a neighbor's dairy.

Cattle are herd animals and are not too happy if they are alone. If you have trouble keeping that guy in your fences, you might want to consider getting another calf to keep him company. That has worked for me. Good luck and good eating!

Pictures are much better now. You have a Guernsey Yearling and from all the green showing in your Pictures Forage should be no problem.Castration and A Salt and Protien Block and Water and he will be OK for the Summer and Fall. This winter some Shelter from the weather along with Hay and Corn based Feed and next year you will have some good Freezer Meat. I was raised on Guernsey Meat and I turned out OK.

thanks for the information john. i dont know hoot about cattle, we raised a few pigs, but that was 40 years ago. i felt sorry for this little guy, and the landlord where he is at just wants him gone. odd tho that nobody in the area knows where he came from. they raise angus and hereford steers, no dairy cows at all. he is real frendly too, you can walk right up and scratch him on the head. we did find a farmer with cattle that is supposed to come and get him tommorrow. if not, i guess i'll have to fence off a pasture and make some room in the barn for a cow..... .hope the red tractors get along with him!!
