How can I determine if my Ford tractor is a 8N Or a 9N. Thanks GLC

Another obvious difference is the wheels which can be seen at a distance. HTH

8N has a 4 speed and the 9N/2N have a 3 speed tranny. If its a 9N or 2N the only way to be sure is to run the serial numbers, which or in the left side of the engine block about center just under the head. They will start with 9N then have a few more numbers behind that then just check them out on the serial number list on the left side of this page

Another way to tell "at a distance" is that the 8N has floorboards under the pedals, 9N does not.

Running boards were optional on 9Ns, but they were a different style than the 8N.

8N has a 4 speed tranny, 9N has a 3 speed tranny, there are other things also, go on this site to 9N, 2n, 8n, forum, the best info in the world is available there. the guys there can help you with anything. john
