Thanks for the answers on my other questions. I have another one. Say during the time after I cut my hay until the time I get to bale it (probably 4 to 5 day) what happens if it gets rained on while laying out in the field? I have a sickle mower and 273 baler but no conditioner or tedder so it will take a while longer for me. Thanks
Joel

you can use either a wheel rake or a bar rake and take care of this as well, a wheel rake will tet the hay in one of its set-ups and with a bar rake you can set it to take off the top half of the windrow and then turn over the other half...works...

Don't know about where you live, but out here, I would drop to my knees and give thanks to mother nature for sending the moisture. :>)

I've had it happen off and on in the past 25 or so years I have baled hay. If in windrows then that can be a problem but if still just laying on the ground, let it dry a day or 2 then rake it up as fluffy as you can and let it sit a few ors or till dry and bale it. Most of the time you will lose a little quaitly but not much. If in windrows you need to turn the windrow a few times and then you can save it but it will not be as good as it would have been if just laying

If you run that tedder right after the rain it should get it up off the ground a little.

Although a tedder helps, sacrificing hay quality during rain is just.... a part of life!

First of all I don"t know where you are. It Southwest MO where I am I would let it lay until it is fairly dry then rake it as loose as I could. If it is raked when rained on raise the discharge end of your rake up about 10 inches you may have to play with this a little and turn the windrows by raising the outer end it will scatter the hay some and help with the drying.

If it gets wet in the windrow, its a mess. Even with a tedder not much salvage to it in a humid climate. On the ground, with a tedder, its not a huge problem, just hurts the quality and color. Without, all you can do is let it dry on top, turn it with a rake, and turn it again, and again.

There are a world of tedders sold when hay gets wet unexpectedly. A two basket runs about 1500.
