Does anybody have any experience with the JD 24T small square hay baler? What years were they made? Do they make pretty good bales? Any major problems with them....knotters?
Looking at one for $1500. Don"t need a great baler as won"t do much hay in small squares, but definately don"t want one that won"t tie.
Thanks

I and my family baled 13,000 bales of hay and straw last year with two 24T. They work great when everything is in time and the knotter is working correctly. The bales come out consistently and evenly all day long. We put a 350 International on it and it makes a perfect pair with the 24T. Lately we can order all our needed parts at the local John Deere parts distributer. All balers will have problems with knotter sooner or later, but once you get one of these little 24Ts working they go all day long. Have any questions, I have a lot of experience with these balers, give me a yell on email (smosb@htc.net)

that's all i use for may small square(i don't have big squares) and i use it every week and she puts out good light bales(depending on the size and pressure on chamber)I've had smaller problem like my dad jackknifed it and a wagon coming down a steep hill to fast and busting the hub to $&#&. and i hit a fox hole and busted the twine box side axle but otherwise no problems. mine has a bad seal somewhere and leaks the hydraulic fluid out over the winter for the kicker but knock on wood, it's the best baler i ever had. they sure can take a beating. my 2 cents

I have had one for years and it has been a very good baler. Unless the one you are looking at was stored new, it is overpriced.

good baler but I would agree with $500. Makes a nice square bale unlike the NH banana's! $1800 is getting in 336 range here. I must disagree on parts many things are differen't between a 24T and 14T, I have owned them both.

Great baler....way off the chart on cost. About $500 would be fair if it is operational and has paint on most of it.

Bought TWO of them last fall in central New York - one had been sitting in a shed under eight million pigeons for about 4 years, the other was in pieces in a hedge row - and paid $600 total.

Got them home, scraped the _____ off, found two bales of (4-year-old) twine still in the good one, re-tied the strings, greased and oiled it, and started feeding loose hay from the mow into it.

It made bales like you wouldn't believe! I'm actually LOOKING FORWARD to making hay this year!

1500 is too much for a 24T. Two of my brothers together bale 8-10K small squares a year. They have 2 24Ts that they bale with and a third one for parts. They gave 800 for one and 400 for the other. The $400 one is actually a little better!

How about $6200 for a very good 337 baler? One sold here at auction for that, last month!

That's about a $500 baler, maybe 8or 900 if it has a #30 ejector.

A great baler. Dad bought one in '64 also and I still have it and use it. Makes a good tight, square bale. Sounds a bit spendy to me, but the way things are going one never knows where the limit is on old machinery because new is out of sight.

I had a 14T real piece of CRAP traded it off for two IHC 46s now built one good one from those two and now have another IHC 46 wire baler. Onlt thing is to get the manual and study, study, study it. These things have to right on to bale and knot everytime.
My New Holland is just the opposite it will work under almost any condition with little help. If you want to tie every time no matter what get a wire tie they never fail.

Pa bought a brand new one in 1964. Paid $1478 and it was the best baler you could ever want. aMain thing when buying used baler is to find someone who knows knotters and have them adjusted and replace any worn parts.

Pretty good old baler. Came out after the 14T and 14T parts will work on them. Also JD still sells the manuals for them. Not sure what year they started but it was some where around 1962 give or take a few years
