Hello, I just recently purchased my second LT16 out of an estate sale. The first has given me good service, & the second is going to need some work. I also have a John Deere 111 that has been nothing but trouble, as after a new motor, I lost the transaxel. Question is, why has Snapper gotten such a bad wrap? Most people act like the line never did exist. The LT16 is built like a tank, are the other lawn tractors made by Snapper junk? Is mine considered junk? What gives???

My experience with Snapper has been ok, but Ive only had one and I used it for about 3 years and never had a problem with it. My Dad bought a 111 in 1982,(I assume this is the vintage that youre refering to, since I dont have the money to watse on a John Deere),he sold it in 95 and replaced it with a STX something, biggest pile of junk I have ever seen. The guy who has the 111 is still using it to this day, on the original engine, which has never been rebuilt. he did tear it down a couple of winters ago and cleaned it up, repalced the belts and such and gave it a new paint job.

I may get bashed but last year I bought a Cub Cadet M50 Tank Zero turn. I am very impressed with this mower, and more importantly, when something does go wrong, I have 3 dealers within 50 miles of me, no other mower I looked at could say that. And more importantly, the price was right.

To me its seens like most new mowers are very cheap made, plastic and more plastic. Now a days if you don't clean the decks everytime you mow they will rust out it 2-4 years, they never use to be this way, I have had 3 hp. briggs on older decks that lasted years with just oil changes and sharpening the blade, even the wheel centers then were steel, guess its just the time now for everything to be used a couple of years and thrown away and pay big buck for another couple of years.

My Snapper mower turned 24 this year. Belts, front wheel bearings, throttle cables, batteries and, an engine. Those sre the only things I've ever changed. Even has the original seat and I'm not saying that I'm a big person but, that seat has had a real workout. The older ones were excellent machines but, I have heard that the newer ones are nothing compared to the older ones and that they have really cheapened them up.

The older snappers were good mowers. I don't know anything about the new ones

My dad bought a used 1 in 1966, it ran until 1984 when we bought a brand new one. Had the tecumseh on it and it was nightmare from the start. New axle bearing every year, clutch disc repl. yearly, finally the motor came apart. I"m about 25 miles from where they make them but I would never buy another.
