I have a C4 and C6 3 speed automatic transmissions I was getting rid of(freeing up some space)and the local transmission shops aren't even interested in them, said they are too old.I was kinda surprised by that remark but I guess the day of the old 3 speed is over huh!I want to sell them, not throw them in the scrap metal pile, there is someone out there needing one.Have any of you put in a overdrive in a 79 F250?Thanks

Part them babies out yourself. Pull'em down, seperate the steel from the aluminum and take it to the $crap yard.

put them on ebay with no reserve. They'll sell, but you won't have your pockets full of gold.

Check camper rigs, trailer towers. I recently replaced the 4eod- overdrive trans in Ford van with early 3 speed. 4 speed overdrive spit out fluid, overheated, burned out low gears- 3 speed was available as return favor so used it instead of spending $1000.00 for rebuild. Works good, mileage about same under 55. Tranny shop said older units have less to go wrong- especially computer controls- so some working trucks that tow and haul get them installed when overdrives go out. 3 speeds have a bit larger clutch surface area, can get extra disc in for low gear so take abuse better than usual 4speed. Snow plow rigs get swapped second season after losing low gear also. RN

Not much demand, even in the hot rod world, because majority of rods use GM small block, not Ford. Another problem is shipping- prohibitively expensive. Two suggestions- try local Craig's List, and try local wrecking yards.

Where are you located? If they're within an easy driving distance of me (northern Pierce County, WA), I'll take 'em off your hands. For an overdrive tranny in your '79, you'll want to stick with the AOD, since it doesn't have an electronic interface. It should be a simple swap.

Well, the northwest part is good at least. The C-4 is pretty popular among hot rodders because of its size, and the C-6 is popular because it can handle gobs of power, but outside the hot rodder community, there isn't much demand for them.
