I worked for a Belarus dealer. We still sell parts. Some of the tractors we sold were nothing but trouble and some didn't give any trouble. You can't cowboy a Belarus because it won't make it. As far as oil leaks go they are all fixable. I fix just as many leaks on other brands.

My neighbor has a small dairy and that is all he has for tractor power. 3 of them 60hp, 80hp and 100hp all 4wd. He swears by them. I'll have to say I've done all the repair work on them and they don't break down any more then any other tractor with similar hours. In fact they are little bit easier to work on compared to other brands of tractors and the modular concept of the componets makes them easy to find parts for. 90% of all parts on his tractors interchange with every Belarus tractor made between now and 1974. And by the way the Belarus MTZ 80 is the most popular tractor ever sold worldwide with over half a million produced and still in production.

I know were a good one is sitting. I have a neighbor that bought one. He used it a total of 1360 hours. The whole time it sounded like all the rods were coming through the block any time. The last time it gave him trouble he walked home and the tractor is still sitting in the weeds right where he got off of it at. I ask him about 2 or 3 months ago and thought I would have to fight him. He said he was going to burn it and then bury it so nobody else would be troubled with it.

My brothers neighbor was a landscaper about the time of the breakup of the USSR.He bought a new Belarus 28 hp tractor for $5600 and used it a year or two before the hydraulic cylinder broke. He couldn't find parts, the company was out of business, the whole country was out of business. He asked the machine shop my son in law worked in about building a replacement from scratch. The estimate was more than he paid for the tractor.

I've got one that my DAd bought. I inherited it.
On the good side it is very fuel efficient.
Of course when a tractor is broke down they don't use much fuel. Worst 4wd that I have ever seen and it takes 40 acres to turn around, it is hard to shift and ALL the controls are on the right hand side.

Well... you saw it. Now, if you'd call it a tractor... that's another story.... but yes, Belarus does build something that resembles a tractor.

The Minsk built Belarus tractors (the water cooled ones) are based on the Farmall design, in fact were a copy. Cheap, if you can put up with all the oil leaks are ok (no more) for a small farm, but not for seirous hard work.

Had a 520A for close to 20 years. It'd be a rather primative Farmall they copied.... and not saying much for Farmall if you ask me. The one and only virtue that tractor had was that it was easy on fuel. It had good torque too, but only for the simple reason that it got lugged because nobody really cared anyway. For the longest time we hoped it would catch fire, and we'd walk away... but it wouldn't even do that.
I spose we put a couple thousand hours on it; mostly in the woods dragging a trailer. But that's about all it was good for. It was the most contankerous, ignorant rig to work with on anything else. I don't know how you could get anything done if you had to rely on it because you would work at about 1/2 the speed of the same vintage Ford. We never had too many major problems with it. Just the leaks and starters/electrical. Got to the point where it just wasn't worth the trouble of dealing with it. Always had to have a blue one around to start the old coot... so you might as well do the work with the Ford too.
