How did I do?

Went to look at some used cattle gates yesterday, and happened to see a D-14 Allis Chalmers tractor with wide front, like new paulson trip loader, and new tires there. Also had a like new 2 bottom mounted plow that was always kept inside. I asked if it was for sale, woman said yes. $1800 for the tractor loader and plow. I started it and it ran super, no noise in any gears, power director workes great, doesn't jump out of any gears. Sheet metal is as straight as a pin, except for the right fender. That has a bend in it, but it can be straightened. I ended up buying it, but I really don't know if this was a good deal, what it was worth, or if I paid to much. Thanks for any opinions. I need a piece of mind on this. I usually don't buy them that quick, but I didn't want to have to make another trip back since I was there with the trailer anyway.

You did well. If you and the widow are happy with the deal leave it at that.

I think you did just fine-neither side took advantage of the other. Greg

No, I don't know, in that I don't deal with older Allis Chalmers Tractors. I have a few IH and John Deere. I didn't ask to be told "you already know". If I had known, I would not have asked. And as for screwing an old widow woman, that is not what I do. Yes it was an older lady that owned it, but she called two of her sons and her next door neighbor while I loaded the gates and they helped her arrive at the price. Thanks to those who answerd my simple question in a polite way.

I would think a running D14 by itself is worth around $2000... you did fine.

C'mon M Nut, are you really asking if you got a good deal? Of course you got a good deal and I'm sure you know it.

Sell the loader and end up with all most a free tractor. Did the poor widow woman get her price?

For a trip bucket loader? No way in heck will that bring that kind of money. If I were to sell the loader, I'd be thrilled with $400.00 for it. I can't get people to pay $750 for straight all hyd. loaders here in MN. I've got two right now I haven't been able to get any bites on. They don't even call when the ad is placed in the paper.
