hi, i have a 64 mack b model i am restoring and got to run it a good bit yesterday and this afternoon after i got home from work. what i am wondering is my air tank on it has a couple of pin holes in it and they won't let it build up air pressure so i can drive it. so what i am wondering is could i weld it with some 6011 rod and it hold and be safe to drive and use or should i just replace with a new one or good used one. next thing is if i should replace it where is the best place to get one new or used . thanks in advance.

I started driving a truck in 1974 and those air tanks are the same today as they were then. Go get you a different tank. I can see you wanting to keep things original but safety sould override such small details like " that tank ain't the right one". Who will know? Just you and me.BTW I'm working on a 1964 Emeryville cabover. Git ur done. Tom

If you have ever seen the aftermath of an air tank explossion you would not even consider driving with a weak tank.

If there are pin holes, that means it's rusted thru. What are you gonna weld to? Pin holes means it's thin, Very thin. Even it you would manage to fill the holes, there would be more after the air is built up. Doug N

There is a webb site called OLDMACKS.com I bet they can fix you up with an air tank. Good luck with your truck. I started out driving a B61 in 1965 good old truck hot in summer and a little cold in winter. Used to wrap a shop rag around the gas pedel out in west Texas to keep from burning the bottom of my foot, but I loved to see the flame out of the stack on a hard pull. Don

I wouldn't weld the air tank if I was you. first a DOT inspection could cost you a buck. second if there are a coulpe, there will be more..It isn't safe..Not with 90 to 120 lbs of pressure..
