Some years ago I purchased a camera on Ebay and scammers tried to het it from me y claiming it was stolen etc. Never bought from Ebay since. This week after hearing about Ebay on these forums so much I decided to try again. I bid on 5 Items for my Farmall A and was prepared to really get into it. Left meeting early just to be at the final hour and lo and behold, the auctions were canceled by Ebay for some secretive violation by the seller. NEVER AGAIN WILL i PURCHASE FROM ANY ONE HAVING ANYTHING TO DO WITH EBAY. Oh by the way, I was the leader on 4 of the five items.

Nearly 1000 deals on ebay as both a buyer and seller over a 9 year peroid and have only had one bad experience that cost us $25.00.I would have had to have driven a million miles to find some of the stuff that I have bought on ebay.

Good , some of those Farmall A parts might fit my Super C, less bidding competion. I like Ebay, you could drive a million miles and not find that one thing to complete a collection, or that discontinued part, or on and on. I've bought about thirty five things on there and only had a problem with one guy. His description did'nt quite match his product and he would'nt answer my e-mails until I burned him as hard as I could on his feed back. That got his attention, but the other people I've bought from just could'nt have been better, I like it. Jim

Tried to use ebay 3 times, had our accounts hijacked 2 of those times. I will NEVER use the worthless site for anything myself. Greg

All dances have a beginning and a ending. Lots of info posted by the seller ebay name. When the rating is below 99% usually a warning. The feed back says more than many think. The OK's and it arrived are the same as negative. Look at the feed back for the negative ratings. Many of the red marks by the buyers would say they would be unhappy with live mothers milk. I usually ask questions as to the condition after learning the hard way. No responce no bid. I have called the seller and got some cash back. I had heard that to learn the game you will have to throw the dice. Auctioneer was once heard to say the the last bidder was the only fool willing to pay that much. Wondered when you are a live auction wearing the five buckle over shoes and seed corn hat did you get every thing that you bid on???

Wow, not only are you going to avoid ebay, but you're going to refuse to do business with anyone who ever buys or sells something on e-bay. You've moved into a very small world.

Since you say you were lead bidder on 4 of the things you bid on, sounds like you were counting your chicks before they hatched. Most of the bidding takes place in the last few minutes of the auction anyhow.

I forgot to mention that I bought a used car on eBay. The bids were so low that I decided to take chance. The car turned out to be not quite so good as described, but close. I bought one-way airline ticket to the seller's city and drove the car the 11 hours home. I wound up with about $6500 invested, the local County tax office appraises it at $10,300.

I've only bought two items on Ebay, but I was careful about checking out the sellers and made sure they were reputable.

I'd never buy an item from someone that only has a few feedbacks and appears to be selling random items. I don't trust the site anymore then I trust a equipment consignment auction.

Henry can and should do as he pleases with regard to eBay. If an auction listing uses a picture from a manufacturers ad for that item, the picture is copyrighted and if someone complains, eBay will cancel that auction. Just for the use of a picture without permission. Posting a picture that you took of the item is fine. BUT! If an auction ends before the listing is pulled (it does happen) and you decide to buy the item anyway, none of the eBay protections are in place. Some say those protections are worthless, but I did get my money back on a couple of items that I never received. More than 95% of my eBay experiences have been good. I have bought some new items for about 1/4 of their normal selling price. That makes me keep looking there as a source.

Your decision has no effect on me, but, It sounds like you are making a decision with limited experiance. I have bought and sold on ebay with very few problems.
I can do without the people who think everyone is trying to cheat them. They are normaly judging people by the way they are.

That is pretty much what I have found also. I've been using Ebay for several years and my happieness is just about the same as with any local business. Once in a great while something doesn`t work out like you hope. I`ve refunded money on a couple of items people weren`t happy with and resold them to people who were happy with them. I`ve had to have Paypal get me a refund on a couple items because those sellers weren`t quite square with me. I guess a couple other times I`ve ask for and got fast refund from seller when I wasn`t happy. I did get took for $50 on a saw once before I started using Paypal. Any more I ONLY buy and sell using Paypal payments. I've got well over 1000 transactions on Ebay.

I've bought a bunch of stuff on Ebay[ about 55 ]..I've been burnt 1 time on a HP M-22 digital camera..No serial number on the camera..When I confronted the people about it , They acted like I killed their pet mascot..They've never been more put-out by a customer in their lives..How dare you insinuate that we sell stolen goods???? Hey if it fits , wear it.....Some are less than aboveboard , others are a breeze to deal with..As a whole , I'm satisfied with Ebay results..

I've bought over 500 items listed on EBAY. I've sold over 150 items. In all that time, I've had ONE item with any complications. (Something lost in shipping that was finally found and delivered) Now if there was something afoul, doesn't it mean anything that it was CAUGHT and DEALT WITH in a proper manner? EBAY is no more or no less dangerous a place to do business with strangers than any other sales venue. You play the game, you take your chances.

Just can't ever say enough about buying sight unseen. Local guy here bought a Sears Craftsman pressure washer on EBay. Looked great, worked for about an hour. Of 5 bolts in the bottom of the pump,3 were broken off,the other two worked loose and blew the guts out of the pump. Why put yourself through this?

That's OK. It might keep the price down a bit without one extra bidder!!!
I have bought lots on ebay and on balance have had good luck. I know the risks and take the precautions necessary. No different than the local car auction where you might be bidding against the wall.
Your choice. It's up to you. Your bids were probably on really cheap parts that didn't exist, or something like that. If they had completed you might have had something to complain about!!

Sometimes I wonder about these posts that run EBay down. I have done business on Ebay for about as long as they have been there. I have sold and bought and never had any trouble. Well I bought a silly antenna that was supposed to boost my cell phone reception, like I said it was supposed to boost it, BUMMER.
Anyway if one really does business on Ebay he would know that 99.9 percent of the auctions are legit and the others don't last long before EBay kicks them off.
I would just take your RANT and put it where it will do both of us the most good.

Walt

I'm sorry you feel that way because there are some very honest sellers on ebay. I might add that shutting yourself off from ANYONE that sells on ebay will pretty much close the doors to any on-line tractor parts shopping for you. Just about ALL parts sellers that have websites also sell on ebay.

I too have done a loooot on evil bay. You will run into issues but i have had just as many from companies, outside. Slow shipping, lost/damaged items, incomplet orders etc. As a seller you will have same problems. There are some bad auctions and terms and bad sellers. Yes i have seen many items go for way more than new and had that happen to me as a seller (but i did not complain.

So now you are backing up a bit and saying if the seller has a seperate website, then it is OK to buy from him on ebay?

For what it's worth, ebay is nothing more than a webhost. Ebay does not sell anything because they have nothing to sell except for a web service. Ebay sellers are made up of folks like myself, Nebraska Cowman, Stieners, OEM, Steel wheel ranch, etc., etc. Maybe we should continue this thread, and anyone who sells on ebay just raise their hand?

Rusty, I buy and sell on ebay a little and have only had one problem so far. I sold a perfect grill for a 350 Farmall twice for 75 dollars and never got paid either time. I still have the grill though. I have found things there that would take a miracle to run across with the truck or phone. I guess my hand is up.

I think you missed the point altogether. I will not buy on Ebay!! If they have a separate website I may buy from them on that website. These were all used parts and no piture infractions were involved. MOST OF YOU MISSED THE WHOLE POINT. I did not ask for anyone else to quit buying there. I was ventimg I am sure that if you went to buy a car or anything else you wanted and were excited about and you were told it no longer for sale you would think long and heavy aboout going back there. Twice burned is enough for me. Youall can have it More power to you.

I have bought a few items. I buy high dollar from people I can drive easily to and pick up and view. I bought a skid loader and the guy said If not what I wanted when picked up he wouldnt hold me to taking it. If not around close I usually buy from a store front, you can see that they have a web page etc. so far so good. but with all business transactions you have the good and the bad and eventually you'll get one of the bads.

GOod Luck
