I have just bought a farmall 140 tractor. It has all ready been converted to a 12 volt system. All of the light wires have been cut off the lights and some of the wires are pretty bad.Im trying to rewire it and the ammeter is no good.I got me a voltmeter and would like to get a diagram on how to wire it in. thanks in advance Tracy

If one knows how to interpret the readings from each type meter, either/both can be valuable. It is surprising how many owners are worried about the fact that their ammeter registers high amperage after starting and then it tapers off to lower amounts. Some interpret this as a problem! Volt meters will show a rise as soon as charging starts and should hold that value so long as the charging system has an output. For conversions with high amperage alternators, the range of existing ammeters may not be adequate.

Get thee an ammeter and wire it like it was originally. A volt meter doesn't tell you very much about the charging system, while an ammeter does.

The lights should be wired as original, just need 12 volt amps instead of 6 volt lamps.
