I been paying paying $150 for 7-10 day olds. Very healthy and recieved all their colostrum. What are you all paying/selling for em, this is dairy not beef, but would be curious about the beef as well.

$100 buys one of the strangest sounding sheep I ever saw. The ram was $160

Bob calves at auction here are going for $35-50/cwt. I've never received over $130 for any of the calves that I have ever shipped. I always dip navels, feed colostrum and pasteurized whole milk until they leave.

125-150 heifers (beef) 150-175 steers (beef or dairy) I cant see how it pays. Between milk replacer and death loss/meds its got to be a tight tight break even.

Not to many years ago dairy calves wouldn't bring the cost of trucking. There was a local story of a guy who took two to the local sale barn in his pick up with a cap and put a sign on the truck "FREE CALVES" and went in to watch cattle sell. When he came out and looked into the truck to see if anyone had taken the calves there were four!

$70.00 this week, and they have to be 100lbs. plus, or forget it. Was $100.00 for most of the summer. All are calves go to Quebec.

Hi Phillip. Yeah, Roy was in yesterday morn to drop off some cash and papers on some cows. He was kind of messed up earlier in the summer, but all good now. He's been fussin with his alfalfa a bit, so I imagine it will do OK. Baby is good too. Funny thing is he is only two miles down the road and I have been too busy to go and have a look. Someday soon. Have you got that new silo topped out? Kent in NB.

I just sold a 1.5 year old for less than $600 what BUMMER. Next time I will sell them before they reach 800 lbs you get almost twice the price per lb.

I buy them here in central illinois about 4-6 weeks old for 150 from a local dairy. The other farmer I buy from is 75 for jersey cross and 125 for holstein 4-5 days old. The selling market is bad around here for dairy calves. I still have not figured out where in this area to sell them. Took some feeders in a week ago at 500 lbs and got .70 lb bout made me sick. I love the meat from the dairys steers better than them famed angus cause its leaner meat.

This time of year they're usually cheaper. Everybody wants calves in the spring; not so much demand in the fall / winter.

Dairy here would fetch $200.And beef up to $300.

I've seen day olds go for $250.

I recieved one that was xbred holstien/swedish red, boy is that a stocky calve, gaining weight like crazy, strong as an ox, friendly as as a baste hound. Father in law gave me some crap about paying $150, saying they are only bringing $90. I said get me some, if they are healthy, he hasnt delivered yet. I think he is just being a turd about it because he sold the farm and is stir crazy cause he misses farming and critters. Plus I know these calves are coming from a disease free, well managed farm.

Dave,
Glad to see you are getting started with your cattle venture. Sounds like you are doing just fine. Last ones I saw sell was 6 weeks ago, but they were in the $80-$120 range, and they looked just average. Nothing special at all.

A few more days of fencing, which will have to be after seeding a freinds 30 acres of wheat and filling 2 silos, I may be able to start shopping for a couple bred cows, if that darn price comes down.

Yeah, I really don't know what bred cows are even bringing. I am just at the number now where I have hay for the winter so I don't even pay any attention. Friend of mine said he had some black angus cows with 3-4 month old calves he was going to sell, but wanted $1000 apiece for the pairs and didn't think he would get that. Never heard what ended up happening though.

Bought a holstein and a jersey 3 weeks ago. Both 2 days old, $48 each.
