Getting a crank shaft ground

Roughly, what is the going rate for a 4 cylinder crank shaft grinding/refinishing? I know it will vary from shop to shop but trying to get an idea on costs to make some desisions. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. I"ve measured it a couple times now (2 different ways) it looks like #1 is at the limits of the out-of-round and taper. We"ve got a shop that can do it but he final charge is always 20% more than his estimates so the info provided helps. Thanks again.

Well if it cost that much you might as well go to a salvage yard and get a good crank. I've bought them for a lot less.

That one that cost me 350,was quite bad,had to be built up and reground,then ground the rest to 10 under come to think of it.

Wow, last one i had ground was 10 years ago, done at an automotive speed shop, charged me $75.

Farmall 400 crank, ground and I had them order the bearings so that I would not have to worry about them either. $225 SDE

Last 6 cylinder I had done cost me around $350 if that helps.

Why not call the experts at a machine shop? Tell them what you have and what you want done.
