NO2(nitruos oxide) and local anesthetic.

Man, those things were in there. The nurse had to hold my head down with alot of onion while the doc(a good sized guy) yanked and twisted and reliefed cut the rascals until they pulled.Bled like a stuck hog!!!

It was kinda funny. The surgeon asked if I was OK.I asked if the assistant was allright 'cause she looked in more pain than me.

I'm still a little loopy, but sore.Gonna work in the shop tomorrow.

Hopefully will get the Glencoe Soil Saver disc-chisel ready to go as long as the fields still have standing water in them. The JD 6600 and 220 flex is rarin'to go on the beans. ~brad SE MN

Had mine out a couple years ago. They put me under, and I never felt a thing, even after the dope wore off. I filled the Vicaden script on the way home, and never took one. I couldn"t believe they could tear up my mouth like that and no pain after. Very smooth experience, other than keeping stuff out of the holes till they filled in. You"ll be fine.

Ice packs or swell up with great pain. Usually wisdom teeth don't bother as long as you can keep them properly brushed.

I had mine out at age 29 by an oral surgeon. He knocked me out for the pulling. After they hooked up the IV, he started to drill some grab holes and I was not out yet. I was trying to catch the assistances attention by pointing franticly at the IV. Next thing I knew, I saw shaken awake. After the ride home the pain hit me bad. My wife called the doc and he called in a rx for a big bottle of codeine that should of lasted a week. I drank the whole thing on the weekend. Little did I know that heavy and long doses of codeine will block up your bowels like someone poured in cement. I had a bad day on Monday with that little problem. I also swelled up like a chipmunk with a winters supply in his mouth. What fun we have on life's little problems.

That reminds me...I need to get mine pulled. I don't have dental insurance from work, and harvest on top of my day job is keeping me too busy. I know those teeth are causing a trainwreck back there and I've already got WAY too many teeth in my mouth as it is. I'm waiting to see the doc's jaw drop when he sees my x-rays. Maybe they can finally refer me to an orthodontist...not that I can afford braces or anything...

My story is a little different, I guess- I don't have any wisdom teeth. Never had any. X-rays of my jaw reveals nothing down there. Dentist said its fairly rare- anybody else out there who never had any wisdom teeth?

I had this done many years ago while in the Air Force. They knocked me out for it. When I woke up, I had hallucinations for the beter part of the day. In one very vivid episode, Albert Schweitzer and a Rastafarian were having lunch at the foot of my bed!

That's what I do every day. Extract a few teeth, do some fillings, a root canal or two, ect. I come home and relieve the stress by working on my old tractors and implements. Now you see why I have a lot of stress with a page full of responses!!

Spent first day of spring break my Frosh year of college (along time ago) getting my 4 cut out. They were darn neared sideways way deep in the jaw. I was out cold for the procedure. I later had dry sockets and infections in the holes they left. I had to have the stitches cut back out and they filled the holes with cloves (yes the kind mom used on hams) and restitched. A couple of different prescriptions also. Those cloves weeped out for weeks and left a terrible taste in my mouth. I still don"t like the scent of cloves but it worked.

Had mine out about a month ago, all 4 wisdom teeth. I had a very good experience, I opted to be put to sleep, and the funny thing is I don't even remember really feeling all that sleepy, the next thing I know is they are telling me its all over. They put an IV in my arm, and some sort of "sneaky oxygen" as my oral surgeon called it to my nose, and shortly before I went out, he gave me a shot in the IV line of something. I did bleed a lot afterwards, I had a mouth full of gauze, and had to keep changing them as they kept getting soaked until the bleeding stopped, which took several hours. I then had some Jello when the bleeding stopped and could only eat very soft foods for a couple of days. Be careful not to eat anything with little seeds in it or anything that could get down into your incisions causing infection. I'd imagine you got a paper with instructions on it to mix up salt water to swish around to help clense and heal your mouth quicker. It wasn't too bad, the pain wasn't that bad and I mostly managed it with Ibuprofin. I didn't get back to myself for about a week, and I found that much physical activity would put me in pain and don't let your pain get ahead of the medicine!, I did that a couple of times right after surgery and the pain comes back pretty quickly and it really hurts for about half an hour until the medicine catches up. I didn't trust myself to run equipment or drive for a few days since I was on pretty heavy doses of pain medicine, even though I felt alright everyone thought it would be best if I didn't, heck I thought I had done a pretty good job of walking out of the doctors office after my surgery since I was out the door within 5 minutes of waking up, but I was told I was walking pretty tipsy and a nurse had guided me out. I didn't sleep afterwards though like everyone thought I would. I came home and surfed the web in a vikoden and Ibuprofin cocktail stupor, even wrote a few posts, but I guess I did alright since nobody questioned them.

Aloha, I was stationed at Ft. Sill for a couple of months for AIT training and went to the dentist for a checkup. He said he had to pull out my wisdom and he will pull out all four so it wouldn"t give me any problems in Germany. He pulled all four and I walked back to my unit and the cook said he would cook me anything I wanted. Yea right! All I could eat was ice cream. LOL

26 years ago mine had the be cut out (all 4). No questions asked, they put me out cold. Woke up and Mama dragged me home and I crashed on the bed. Mama went back to town and got a couple perscriptions filled for me. She got home and I was still crashed. She got a picture of me snoozing with my old 3X3 (3"legs by 3 feet long) Basset/beagle Suzy. Never did figure out how that dog got up on the bed, but she did growl at Mama when she reached toward me to wake me up. Mama decided it was best to leave sleeping dogs lay.

I got the best story yet an every word is true. Station ed at Weisbaden AFB, HQ, USAFE in 1954 and had great dental care at the Frankfurt dental clinic so I had been on a fllight that lasted a few days and started a terrible tootheache so I APC'd it till we got back because of the great care.We landed at Frankfurt about 3:30 PM and as soon as filed my flight report I hightaled it to the clinic only to find it closed except for the emergency tech who informed me I had to wait till monday. No way could I wait so they took me to a German dentist. He proceeded to tell me two wisdom teeth had to come out now. He then (this is true) strapped me down arms and chest and put a ddevice in my mouth to hold it open. I kept waiting for the novocaine abd the next thing I know he is attacking my mouth with a hammer and chisel, NO PAIN KILLER, for about the nest 30 minutes. I would have killed him if I had the strength left in my body. I think he really hated Americans. I was off flight status for 4 weeks making me miss my flight pay and was sore as all **ll. Gums. mouth, jaw, neck etc.

Henry, we had a old time dentist here that didn't like to use pain killers. Believe it or not lots of the old folks around here wouldn't go to anyone else. He was a rough customer. My dad and all his brothers thought he was great. No nothing, just reach in there and get them. ouch!!

Always a fun experience to uh visit the dentist, remember the movie "The Inlaws" ? Alan Arkin And Peter Falk.... I had to see it again right after coming home from the appendectomy, I chose the last pain meds on the way out the door, took the injection option, went home and tried not to laugh at the movie, dumb move.

I had 2 uppers out, in '86, just the local anesthesia, kind of felt like the guy was pushing them out with a tearing and or ripping kind of effect without the pain. Now that's just messed up, thinking about it, paying someone a hefty fee while sitting in a chair as they push your teeth out.. LOL ! Remember having that bloody taste in my mouth the entire walk home and for 2-3 days.

You'll heal up without thinking about it once you hit those fields.

They knocked me out, and I woke up half way done. Doc was sitt"n on me yank"n my head around with his knee in my chest. When I came to, she hit my iv with more dope and I went back out. She say"s it never happen, but has never be able to explain why when I woke up I had a bruse on my chest that looked like I had been hit with a soft ball.

Good luck.

HAd all four pulled at a military "dental hobby shop" back in "94. Vaguely remember waking up half way through, laughing, telling the doc to add more drugs, he did. Funny thing, didn"t feel any dumber afterwards;-) I wouldn"t rush the recovery, you DON"T want an infection. Best wishes!

Had my lowers done about 20yrs. ago. Pieces of my jawbone had to be broken out to get them out so I was put to sleep with Demerol. When I woke up, I felt better than I ever had; until the Demerol wore off!!! Next day, looked like I had been in a bad fight, and lost!! Jaws bruised and swollen, but I recovered in a couple of days.

Had mine cut out 17 years ago. No problems at all. The nurse said now you can't smoke or eat solid food for a day or two. I was smoking as soon as I hit the door and eating that night. Had the other 28 cut out at one time 7 years ago. the only thing that bothered me was the stitches. When they began to dissolve after 3 or 4 days it felt like a mouth full of wire brushes. Other than that no pain, bleeding or nothing.

Still had two of my wisdom teeth until 3 years ago. I was sixty-eight when I had them pulled. They pulled one of them and another tooth and the next trip they pulled the other one and two more teeth. I didn't seem to have much trouble -received shots to numb the pain and didn't have much problem after extractions.

Was put under and had all 4 cut out nearly 16 years ago. I was still pretty doped up as I left and the only thing I remember was someone saying they were gonna bring the car around to get me to which I replied "That"s OK, I"ve walked further than that, drunker than this before, I can nmake it to the car, no problem." Needless to say they brought the car around. never really experienced any pain or problems with the whole proceedure, in fact I ate a Wendys hamburger and fries on the way home.

I'm with Steven - I had mine taken out surgically when I was 18 (just a year or two ago third party image). The nurse said to count backwards from 100 - I think I made it to about 98 ...

You guys are much tougher than I was - I was laid up for several days. If it hadn't been for instant mashed potatoes, I probably would have starved to death third party image.

Senior in high school when I had mine surgically removed. Totally put under and cut out all four of them. It was a pretty miserable time!

It was that or let them keep pushing my teeth crooked.

I was supposed to rest for two or three days - I was out running the combine that afternoon. Liquid diet for about a week for it to heal, mouth packed full of gauze too.

Took about two years for the holes to fill in and stop collecting bits of food, but it's all good now.
